Gays in Costa Rica may want to get READY, more of this is coming.
Prop 8 was overturned in California. SWEET! Now I can go back to having butt SEX without feeling guilty. MAN, this continuous back-n-forth, I'm not sure why I ever CHOSE this FAG thing to begin with, it's so annoying sometimes.

I think most people REALIZE GAY marriage is going to happen whether they want it to or NOT. Really, it's just following the course many other civil liberties traveled, such as inter-racial marriage or woman's rights. Just a matter of time.

Anyway, just want to post a few pics to CELEBRATE, and perhaps RUB a little something-something in the FACE of the Catholic Church here in Costa Rica. "Na-na-na-boo-boo" Archbishop Barrantes, "Can you feel us coming?"

But you can BET the CHURCH is going to pull out ALL the STOPS on this ONE, so it's going to get UGLY, but that's GOOD, it just means they're SCARED.

A tad subtle, but it's nice to see GOD flying his TRUE COLORS.
And of course our UNOFFICIAL ANTHEM, which I NEVER really get tired of listening too. If you haven't heard it, you're in for a TREAT. Play it again and again, learn the words and before you know it, you'll be accidentally singing it in the most inappropriate.... but APPROPRIATE places- like church for instance...hehe.

Costa Rica LEGALIZES Gay Marriage!
Costa Rica legalizes GAY marriage....Whoo Hoo!

Sorry. My bad. It wasn't Costa Rica that legalized gay marriages, it was Argentina.

When I heard some Latin American Country legalized gay marriage I just assumed it was Costa Rica. Who else could it be, you know, since the powers that be in Costa Rica say they want to LEAD and be the SHINING example of PROGRESS and CHANGE while hopefully dragging the rest of Central America along for the ride...blah, blah, blah. My mistake.

What was I thinking, the new President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, may be somewhat of a MILF, in a, 'if Ann Coulter was a Hispanic dude doing drag' sorta way, but she seems CONTENT in keeping the Catholic Church (and the majority of the people) on her side. Forget what's right, it's all about getting re-elected don't ya know. So, while Laura's in office, gays here have little hope of any real SUPPORT. Which truthfully, is not a bad thing, IF and that's a BIG 'IF', gays and their supporters take the next few years to get their MESSAGE out to the Costa Rican people that 'gays are people too'... and especially to the more rural and smaller towns around Costa Rica. I mention a few things they could do in this article: Gay Civil Unions on the Ballot in December?

The 'SMACKDOWN' of the referendum the Catholic Church was attempting to PUSH through Costa Rica's governing body was a nice WIN for our team and for now, we'll take a WIN however we can get it.

Anyway, CHANGE is coming, albeit very SLOWLY, but it's coming and it IS inevitable. Eventually, the Catholic Church will LOSE their INFLUENCE.... eventually. GAYS in Costa Rica and almost everywhere for that matter, won't be relegated to the back of the bus.

So, BUCKLE UP, it's going to be a BUMPY ride and let Argentina be the shiny EXAMPLE of how a democracy is suppose to WORK.

Maybe GAY is EQUAL after ALL

Gays in Costa Rica have a reason to smile after the the constitutional court put a SMACKDOWN on the referendum process that was supposed to put same-sex marriage on December's voter ballot.
Not sure what I'm talking about? Go here: Gay Civil Unions on the Ballot in December? to get up to SNUFF. But here's the gist if you're not in the mood:

The Catholic Church and their flocks of sheep were attempting to put forth a referendum which would allow the people of Costa Rica to vote whether or not to recognize same sex marriage, knowing full well it would never pass if put to a popular vote.

Just like the pic- this is EXACTLY how I feel.... we're in the 21st Century for sake.
So the Costa Rican Court listened to this guy, Quiros Salazar, who said that the referendum violates the rights and freedoms of individuals. Salazar pointed out that Costa Rica is bound by international conventions which protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation. *It should be noted that in Costa Rica, the provisions of international treaties supersede all national laws except the Constitution.

So, some good, gay NEWS for a change. Obviously the WAR is far from over, but this was a nice little WIN in the on-gong battle for (gay) EQUAL rights in Costa Rica.

It's always nice to see the Catholic Church get a good ol' fashion SMACKDOWN from time to time.

Colours Oasis Resort- another reason

There's another reason to stay at Colours Oasis Resort in San Jose Costa Rica.
When we're in San Jose we always try to make time to spend a few nights at Colours Oasis Resort. The truth is, we like it there. Here's my first post about Colours Oasis Resort a little over a year ago if you want more of the finer details, but there's also a Video Review of Colours Oasis Resort me and D'Angelo did embedded below if you'd rather just watch than read.

But now there's another reason to consider Colours Oasis. To be honest, I'm not completely sure of the schedule, but Colours often has fine dining available (contact Colours for details) and we were lucky enough to sample some of the fine culinary skills of Diego, the head chef, on our last visit to Colours. I gotta say, the food was really good and I've eaten at most of the BEST dining establishments in Las Vegas, so I think I know good food. We made a short video just so you could get an idea:

Gay Civil Unions on the Ballot in December?

Gay Costa Rica? There is no 'gay' Costa Rica and technically, Costa Rica isn't that gay friendly EITHER.
Archbishop Hugo Barrantes and the Catholic Church know this. No matter how successful the 'gay-friendly' marketing machine has been here, I'm telling you, 'gay friendly' is merely a phrase connected to Costa Rica in hopes of separating the gay traveler from their money- living here GAY is an entirely different matter.

So here's what's going on:

Archbishop Hugo Barrantes and the Catholic Church are gathering signatures from their herds of sheep and goats in order to get a referendum put into December's Elections on whether gays should be allowed to form Civil Unions or NOT. They need approximately 135,000 signatures. They rightly know if the people of Costa Rica are allowed to VOTE on this issue- the GAYS will get CRUSHED. Of course Gay organizations don't want this as they also know they will LOSE BIG TIME. Like most gay Americans (USA), the gays in Costa Rica rightly believe it should be their God given RIGHT to form a Civil Union (they want Equal Marriage Rights, but Civil Unions are a GOOD start). * If you're not sure, the BIG one represents the Catholic Church. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

While the gay organizations in Costa Rica attempt to BATTLE the Catholic Church and their herds of sheep, the 'everyday' Gay Tico needs to get their collective asses out of the CLOSET and HELP the cause.

Unfortunately, the mentality of a gay here is if they can do what they want in the confines of their own home and go to a gay bar every now and then without incident, then that's COOL- gay can LIVE with that. 99.9% of gays here wouldn't even THINK about doing something 'gay' in public... and the reason is simple- it's not ACCEPTED and EVERYONE knows it. Gay is tolerated- not ACCEPTED, but only tolerated if it's NOT seen. Public displays of gay affection (hand holding included) would be seen as 'shoving GAY down the public's throat', and are NOT tolerated.... and furthermore, most gays HERE seem to tacitly AGREE. *My advice, stage a public 'kiss-in' in cities and towns all over Costa Rica for the next year....highly publicized of course. Also, take kissing on the road- go to a park in the middle of town, make-out, wait for the police to come.... and then take them to Court.

I'm not commenting on the specifics of this 'kiss in', just that I think it's a GREAT idea that could be done here in Costa Rica.
In a nutshell- Gays here are thrown a bone, they don't EXPECT any meat, and really, don't seem to want any so as long as they can go to Pucho's Night Club on a Tuesday night and get their in the dark room without fear the place will be raided.............. well then, what's the problem, it's better than it was a few years ago?

I could go on and ON, but until GAYS in Costa RIca believe (and act) like they are EQUALS, get a little PISSED-OFF at the fact they are merely tolerated and step-OUT of the CLOSET in a big way,,,,

,,,, then Gay Ticos will continue to be the little compliant bitches the Catholic Church wants them to be- tolerated, but just barely- let out of the closet to go to La Avispa on a Sunday night for good behavior, but expected to be back in the CLOSET bright and early on Monday morning.

This is GAY in Costa Rica.

Club Vertigo isn't a GAY Club

Club Vertigo in San Jose Costa Rica is NOT a GAY Club, but......
......it could BE- the Gay Crowd is definitely REPRESENTED ; - ) at Club Vertigo, at least on the Saturday nights we've been there. So, if you want to venture out into the world of 'straight-boys' but still have 'family' about, then Vertigo is the place..... and REALLY, anytime you MIX great MUSIC and ATMOSPHERE along with a few party favors,,,, gay or straight just doesn't seem to matter much.... and your chances of getting LUCKY at the end of the night at Club Vertigo are very encouraging. I'm not sayin we do that......I'm just sayin.

The following is what I posted about Club Vertigo on my other blog: Do'in Costa Rica.

Club Vertigo is right up there with any NightClub I've been to in VEGAS, which trust me, is saying someTHING. Since Club Vertigo is actually located inside of a nondescript office building on Paseo Colón it doesn't look like much from the outside.... but once inside- YOU KNOW it's going to be a good night. The main room has a high ceiling and a BIG dance floor which merges into bar areas on both sides, so you can move around - OR - be right in the middle of the MIX without feeling like a sardine. Of course you have the obligatory long line to ENTER Club Vertigo and they do have a dress code, not overly strict but a dress code nonetheless. You're going to pay a cover, but how much will depend on whats going on that particular night, but by American standards it will be reasonable- ditto for the drinks.

Two different rooms- the main room which when we've been there seems to play a lot of progressive house/trance music and a smaller, side room, complete with a bar and couches that was BUST'ing out some serious, edgier BEATS (LOVE that room). Obviously the music in both rooms is going to depend on the DJ or event that night, but when we've been there the smaller room in our opinion was the place to BE- the ENERGY level was off the charts and the DJ's had the place rock'in and ROLL'in......

Club Vertigo is located on Paseo Colón, but really, who cares, you should be taking a taxi anyway, but if you're looking for some serious DJ talent on a Saturday night, we'd highly recommend CHECKING OUT Club Vertigo. Hey GUYS! How's everything? Busy here, still editing VIDEOS we shot in San Jose a couple weeks ago. Hope you ENjoYed the La Avispa Video and post as well as the Club Oh! Video and REVIEW. We got some more gay CLUB videos coming SOON!

Just wanted to SHARE a couple videos I think I worth passing along....NOTHING to do with GAY or Costa Rica, but still........

The first is from a little guy named Greyson Michael Chance who is singing a Lady Gaga song, Paparazzi. This song went VIRAL and I think we'll be seeing more of this guy in the FUTURE. (I think I contributed to about a 'million' of the hits for this video). Right after this VIDEO went viral, he appeared on the 'ELLEN Show', which you can also find on YouTube as well.

This is one of my all-TIME favorite songs... but living in Costa Rica sometimes makes it hard to keep up with the music scene, so I wasn't AWARE this 'duet' even existed. I don't usually care for remakes, but this is pretty damn GOOD. U2 and Mary J. Blige singing, 'One'.

Club Oh! Gay Night Club

Club Oh! is definitely one of San Jose, Costa Rica's BEST gay Night Clubs.
Club Oh! really isn't 'all that' as far as the inside is concerned. It's like a BIG, BLACK BOX on the inside- but who cares, Club Oh! consistently spins some of the BEST music around. The DJ's know how to get the crowd going.... and keep them goING and combined with a more than adequate lighting system, the bland interior is made up for by the overall ENERGY of the place. Hell, if it was just me and the DJ, I could still have a bomb-ass time....

Club Oh! puts on its fair share of events- White Party, Black Party, Drag Shows, Stripper Shows etc, so make sure to consult a local gay magazine like Gente 10 to find out what's coming UP.... but more times than NOT, Fridays and even more so, Saturdays are the BEST nights at Club Oh!

Club Oh! usually has drink specials, such as paying 6,000 colones (approx. $12.00) at the door which gives you unlimited beers from 10:00pm til 1:00am, or for a little more money (approx. $16.00)- VIP privileges with unlimited cocktails. The 'open bar' can get overly crowded at times which can get a little frustrating, especially on Saturdays, if waiting isn't your thing, stop by Club Oh! after 1:00am. *Obviously, prices could CHANGE.

La Avispa Disco on a Sunday Night

La Avispa is the ONLY gay PLACE to be on a Sunday night in San Jose.
D'Angelo and myself love, Love, LOVE Avispa Discotheque and there IS no better place to party on a Sunday night. I've already written about La Avispa (the wasp) before and if you want a more in-depth look at one of San Jose's favorite gay hang-outs, then go HERE.

Not much has changed since my original article- La Avispa is till the SHIT, except maybe for ONE thing: We made a MUCH better VIDEO to show you the happenings at la Avispa on a Sunday night.

***WARNING!***WARNING!***WARNING!***WARNING!***WARNING!***WARNING!***

La Avispa is notorious for guys trying to separate you from your MONEY. Many will show interest, start dancing with you... and of course want you to buy them drinks,,,, I'm sure you get the picture, but if you decide to play that 'game', just be careful where it leads.

BUT also- this happened when we were La Avispa. We saw our friend Ed dancing with a really CUTE, twink boy. Nothing against Ed, but something just wasn't adding up,,,,, we told him to be CAREFUL and watch himself. Not 5 minutes later when they were dancing, kissing etc. a tranny, working in tandem with CUTE, twink boy, tried to gangster Ed's wallet......problem was, even though Ed was being distracted, his wallet had a chain on it....so, needless to say, he felt the tug. Next thing I know, a tranny goes flying against the wall. CUTE, twink boy got away, the tranny was not so lucky and was picked up by La Avispa security........ you've been warned. Other than that,,,GREAT place to have a GREAT time.

Insidecostarica- Plagiarized to be SURE, but WHY?

Insidecostarica.com uses plagiarism to push their anti-GAY agenda in Costa Rica and gets BUSTED BIG TIME.
For those of you who don't know, Inside Costa Rica is a POPULAR online internet "news" and "travel" source- mostly geared for gringo's and expats who either live here, want to travel here or of course, BUY real estate. Bottom line- Insidecosarica basically exists to sell ..................duh! Not sayin that's a bad thing..... just sayin.

Normally, I wouldn't be PISSED to find out someone or some website plagiarized another site, HELLOOOO..... this is the internet, it seems to be almost the RULE rather than the exception. Original content is HARD to come by, which may be the reason many people turn to 'bloggers' for originality and perspective (I'm hoping so anyway). The other reason I'm peeved- it's a GAY thing, a total in the face by insidecostarica to gays in Costa Rica.... and GAYS everywhere for that matter.

So here's the articles: The ORIGINAL article is HERE. In this article About.com (a MASSIVE information site) discusses the debate over 'nature' vs 'nurture' as it relates to homosexuality. The second article by some DICK at insidecostarica.com is HERE. (If this LINK no longer exists, it's because Inside Costa Rica probably realized they big time.... so I took the liberty of cutting and pasting it HERE, just in case. *If you're not interested in clicking the links and CHECKING out the plagiarism/bias yourself, I will summarize, but really, don't take my word for it- COMPARE for yourself:

Like I said, the ORIGINAL, About.com discusses how gay people become that way- Nature? Nurture? and is even titled as such, "Nature vs Nurture". Here's the first 2 sentence of the article:

"What makes people gay? Do some people have a genetic makeup that predetermines homosexuality or is it environmental and social factors that influence degrees of sexuality?"

This is a nice opening- interesting, intriguing and most importantly- UNBIASED.

Insidecostarica changes it a bit and titles the article: "Homosexuality: Born or Made? Controversy Stirs In Costa Rica" This 'article' basically changes the semantics of the nature vs. nurture concept in attempt to conjure up the OLD, TIRED, blue-collar debate on whether us gays CHOOSE to defile one another and

<<<<<< < You say, "Choice" like it's a bad thing.

Now, if insidecostarica.com would have merely cut and pasted the original article, I wouldn't have cared less. BUT, the so-called writer decides to add their own opening to the 'plagiarized' part of the article.....and it couldn't be anymore biased. Two statements, one subtle, the other, not so much. Insidecostarica's very FIRST sentence of 'their' article:

"Homosexuality has been practiced for thousands of years."

Are you fuckin kidding me, "practiced?" Practice makes PERFECT.... what? Is homosexuality some sort of ritual? "Heterosexuality has been practiced for thousands of years." You wouldn't say that either, it sounds STUPID.

So, we're NOT really gay- just practicing to be GAY? Maybe 'Dick' from Inside Costa Rica should have just come right out with it and opened with, "Men have been sucking each others' dicks forEVER- were they born to suck DICK, or did society teach them how to suck DICK?"

Dick's next statement is hardly subtle, or maybe it is...... hard to say, the writer appears to throw in a COMPLETELY biased (and very random), opinionated sentence.....

Check this out:

"For that reason many believe that homosexuals are made, not born. To me homosexuality is a chosen, learned behavior and former legislator Juan José Vargas has raised controversy in assuring that there is a safe treatment that could end with homosexuality for those undergoing special therapy."

Or perhaps they just fucked-up and meant to put this, "To me homosexuality is a chosen....," as a "quote" by this dumbass, Juan Jose Vargas guy, or maybe it was a sort of combination- a Freudian slip where they meant to quote Vargas, but also tend to agree with the therapy theory. But the slip-up is GLARING and I shouldn't have to guess as to who said, or meant what. VERY rookie if you ask me.

Even so, Insidecostarica's article has ' written all over it. Yes, there's controversy about whether gays should marry because of fucks like Archbishop Hugo Barrantes, but this 'did we choose gay' shit is even getting tired here in Costa Rica. *Check out the readers comments BELOW on the Insidecostarica.com article, even they're saying, "WTF... we still talk'in about this... pAH...leeeez?"

Forget the plagiarism, forget the possible 'rookie' fauz pas,,,,why is insidecostarica.com trying to create controversy where none exists? For me, seems like a sort of hidden agenda...... again, it's not like insidecostarica cut and pasted the 'original'- they changed the title, added a 'beginning' and left out some pertinent information from the 'original' article..... I just want to know WHY?

I'm sure you get the gist of all this, even if you didn't read the original articles. Gay gringo's and gay Tico's living in Costa Rica should be pissed at insidecostarica. It definitely puts into question their integrity or lack thereof. Quite frankly the staff at insidecostarica.com should be putting someone's HEAD on the chopping block about NOW - or apologizing - or giving credit to About.com or SOMETHING. Personally, I think they'll pull the article- Insidecostarica.com plagiarized and now a WHOLE lot of people know it. The reason I do, is because some astute reader of insidecostarica's article commented on it (4th one down):

4th one down says: "if you are going to "borrow" text from another web site, and benefit from the work of another writer, at least have the decency to link to the original source rather than pass off the work as your own. Nearly all of this post is identicle to this article posted on about.com." Can't read the other comments, CLICK the PIC.
So, now YOU know it- Do you care? Will you write them a scathing REPLY and demand they EXPLAIN themselves? How about sending them one of my favorite VIDEOS on the subject:

Hey Guys, just got back from a week of video taping in San Jose and let me tell you, it was WORTH the trip. On this trip we re-visited the nightlife, so in the upcoming weeks I'll have posts and videos about the following Gay Clubs: La Avispa, Pucho's, Club Oh and another smaller club I can't remember the name of off hand....but it's not in the travel books. We also went to a 'straight' club, one of the BEST in Central America called 'Vertigo', and they definitely had some gay boys there as well. We had a GREAT time, maybe even a little too GREAT, always skirting the line of complete debauchery.

Abercam SCREWS us... and not in a GOOD way

The only gay hotel in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, Abercam La Fortuna recently closed it's doors. If you missed the story- it's HERE.

The owners, Tim and Wayne were our friends and I don't think anyone wanted to see them become successful more than us. As friends, we tried to help them get the 'Abercam' word out- we made a couple videos for them and on several occasions I wrote about our many 'exploits' while hanging out there (God, I'm going to miss that) - we also recommended their place to many of gay men who asked for our recommendation- needless to say, we were supportive, in a friends helping friends type of way.

We haven't heard from Tim or Wayne since they CLOSED down shop and left La Fortuna, and it appears no one else has either. Apparently, they continued to collect 'deposits' from people who wanted to stay at Abercam even though they knew they wouldn't be OPEN- they have not refunded those deposits although they did send emails saying they would (within 10 days).

I have a good 'grasp' and understanding of people in general, hell, it was my former LIFE profession and I was good at it, so what people 'do' doesn't really surprise me- I get it. What did the Roman playwright, Terence, say, " I am man, I consider nothing that is human alien to me."

So I feel bad for their situation, very BAD. They LOST it all to the BANK and I'm sure their self-esteem, sense of being and 'purpose' is pretty much in the toilet about now. Who's wouldn't be? But guess who people are emailing to try and get their money back, or answers to Abercam's current state of affairs....? That's right, us. We promoted, supported and staked our reputations ON theirs...... so there's a part of me that's a little at the fact they didn't make GOOD on their promise to refund deposits. There's a part of me that feels responsible. Okay, I'm more than a little.

GAY Costa Rica doesn't seem so GAY right now, and the truth is, I'm a little disappointed. I know La Fortuna Costa Rica is STILL a good 20 years away from accepting men kissing in public, but I didn't realize that even the 'gay community' here, such as it IS, is about as vocal as an ice cube melting in a glass.

After posting this a few weeks ago, "Police tell us to STOP kissing- it's OBSCENE" I was hoping to generate a little more OUTRAGE. HELL, even the dykes kissing in San Jose got a protest out of it. But what did I get,.... ZIP, nothing, Nada.....just a bunch of emails like these:

"That sucks, you should file a lawsuit." and the obvious, "That's discrimination, they can't do that." and the , "You should have told them to " and the rebel, "If I were you, I would have kept kissing..."

And that's it, 47 emails telling me variations of the above statements. NOTHING from anyone that lives here and could HELP make a difference. "Where's my protest?" Where's the OUTRAGE from the gay "community' here in Costa Rica? I know I'm not HUGE on the internet, but quite a few people read my stuff... I thought it might land in the lap of someone here that gives a .... obviously NOT,,, and if it did, I don't know about it.

That's it. Just a little disappointed. As a gringo living here it's not up to me, I need TICO's fighting for the gay cause... if I lead a protest here in La Fortuna, I'm liable to be strung up........................ REALLY, I may as well be living in Mississippi, but gay Ticos might carry a little weight......

Abercam La Fortuna CLOSES

Abercam La Fortuna, the areas only EXCLUSIVELY MEN ONLY Gay Hotel is Officially CLOSED.
I gotta tell you, this is a SAD day for myself and D'Angelo. Of anything we wanted to see be a success, it was Abercam La Fortuna. We love the owners, Tim and Wayne, and watching them pour their hearts and souls, not to mention a boat load of money into their vision and watch it go down the tubes, was gut-wrenching to say the least.

I'm going to miss this.

The reason Abercam CLOSED is simple, they got extremely 'gringo priced' and 'tico timed' during the construction of the place. Everything they did took double, triple and even quadruple the time they were initially told and doubly ditto for the COST of things, so by the time they realized their situation, they were knee-deep into it and turning back just didn't seem to be an option. Needless to say, Tim and Wayne basically OPENED Abercam with little money left in the coffers for monthly expenses and so forth, but even so, they were optimistic since they knew they had a great 'product'.... and they were right, they did, but now they needed a lotta LUCK and of course, TIME, time enough to get the word OUT. They crossed their fingers and hoped for the best.

>But to you naysayers who said they charged too much (many of you guys who run gay and/or gay friendly hotels in Costa Rica can be little, cat fighting sometimes... just sayin) or said they should have also catered to the 'straight' crowd, seriously, fuck-you, Abercam was worth the PRICE of admission and most of you said it wasn't, said it without even seeing or visiting the place, what's that all about? And believe me, La Fortuna could easily handle a 'gay only' hotel and furthermore, now that I'm on a ROLL, if someone had half a nut-sac they would begin where Tim and Wayne left off because those guys were DEFINITELY on to something and I applaud them for having the balls to give it a go.... if only they could have stuck it out a few more months..... but timing is EVERYTHING, and unfortunately, they ran out of it.

We're going to miss you Abercam. Where is GAY going to go to play in La Fortuna? Fuck!

Police tell us to STOP kissing- it's OBSCENE

First, I'll admit it, sometimes I get a little 'lovey-dovey' when I'm drinking and have a nice little BUZZ on, but totally harmless I can assure you. Here's what happened:

Christopher and myself were sitting on a park bench outside mine and D'Angelo's apartment 2 nights ago, it was about 10:30pm. There were people around, but not too many. We were sitting on the bench drinking beer, chatting, and every now and then, making out- it was HOT if you ask me. I've written a lot about our friend Christopher, so if you want to know more about him click his name, but look at him, why wouldn't you kiss him....hehe.

Anyway, trust me, this is Costa Rica, public displays of affection are considered normal here, well, boy-girl public displays of affection, boy-boy, obviously not so MUCH.

The police pull up and say they received a call we were being 'obscene' and then told us we had to stop kissing. WTF! This is the second time in 2 weeks I've been discriminated against- both for merely kissing. I can do 'obscene' but it was nothing that trashy on these two occasions- just kissing. I'll be posting a video in the near future about the first incident. Obviously, La Fortuna hasn't received the MEMO on gay rights- not that this surprises me, since La Fortuna, San Carlos is NOT San Jose, and the same gay RULES do NOT apply here- memo or NO memo.

BUT I do want OUTRAGE! There's been 2 protests in San Jose in the past year (see VIDEO below for one protest we attended) for basically the exact same thing (public kissing) although it was lesbians on both occasions.... luv the dykes, they don't take any In San Carlos, we're pretty much on our own as this is 'cowboy country' and there would be very little public support for our predicament, and actually, most would say we got what we deserved......... as if. We've done a couple videos and I've written extensively on Costa Rica's attitude towards gays, which IS basically a 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell and especially, DON'T ACT' view of homosexuality and that goes doubly for areas outside San Jose. So here, if you're kissing in public, it means you're 'forcing' your gayness on them... and since it's viewed as obscene and a SIN, then they shouldn't be subjected to such evil acts.
I want a GAY group or organization in San Jose to pick up this story.... help organize a PROTEST, have a rally, HELL, what about a massive, gay, 'kiss-in' in the La Fortuna park? As an ex-pat, gay, gringo, and more importantly- an outsider, I don't really feel it's my 'place' to go this alone and I gotta say, I think their would be repercussions if you know what I mean.... so I need HELP, gays who live outside of San Jose do NOT have a voice in Costa Rica, that is a FACT, which is the reason why many gay ticos stay in the closet or are scared to speak up, because they realize almost no one (other gays included) would have their BACK if the hit the fan. But remember one thing-

Gay Travel in Costa Rica

'D'Angelo putting the 'GAY' back into Gay Costa Rica... and ALL in one PLACE.'
D'Angelo has been working feverishly to get the GAY SECTION of our travel site UP, with the most updated INFO about GAY travel, gay tour packages, gay hotels, gay bars etc, so YOU, the gay traveler can make informed decisions on your Costa Rican travel plans. He's NOT done.... but getting CLOSE... and really it's an on-going project anyway.

You may or may NOT know this, but there's TONS of gay Costa Rican websites, but the PROBLEM- most are either OUTDATED, spreading misinformation, or merely a 'guise' to sell you real estate. The gay 'scene' is ever growing and CHANGING in Costa Rica, one step forward, two steps back, three steps forward.... and I can assure you it's a daunting task to keep UP, which is why many gay Costa Rica websites don't or CAN'T. GAY bars and clubs, especially in San Jose, come and go with well meaning intentions but many find it difficult to draw the gay crowds away from the perennial favorites such as, La Avispa, Bochinches, Pucho's and even Club Oh! And the same can be said for gay or 'gay friendly' hotels. For EXAMPLE, the very popular and successful 'Big Ruby's aka La Plantacion' in Manuel Antonio hasn't been around for a couple years or so, but you wouldn't know it by 'GOOGLE' searches, it still pops up like it's ALIVE and well. And double especially when gay hotels and B&B's are being built in the more 'remote' tourist destinations in Costa Rica, marketing and getting the word out can be difficult (although D'Angelo and myself could definitely HELP with that), so many just don't have the money to get by a couple years before they can become established.

Do'in GAY Costa Rica is NOT going away. We will continue to make videos and write about GAY life and travel until we become one of the main 'sources' of gay INFO in Costa Rica. If it's gay in Costa Rica, we will COVER it.

Gays DISCRIMINATED against- AGAIN

'Gays kissing in public doesn't seem to go over very well in Costa Rica.'
Did you hear about this? It wasn't a year ago that 2 lesbians kissed in front of the Gran Hotel in San Jose which sparked a much needed protest against the hotel. Well, it's happened again- lesbians kissing, AGAIN.... the nerve. I don't know the particulars because it was in Spanish and mine is not good, but here's the gist: A girl was working for Banco Nacional and was fired for kissing a girl, probably kissing during working hours, but I'm not sure. I believe the bank denies they fired her for being or 'acting' a lesbian, but the girl alleges that's precisely the reason she was let go.

*Ironically, I have my OWN story to tell, as something similar happened to D'Angelo and myself about a week ago at a nearby restaurant. I don't want to SPOIL it now because we're making a video about it, so be on the lOOk OUT- it will be VERY interesting.

I still maintain, regardless of what the law says, that Costa Rica is a, 'Don't Ask, Don't tell and more importantly, a DON'T ACT'' country when it comes to their overall opinion of GAYS. If two girls are discriminated against in San Jose, which is supposedly a fairly gay friendly city, just think what would happen if they were kissing here in La Fortuna.... or in a more rural part of the country. (I can't wait to post our VIDEO about what happened to us, cause you're about to FIND OUT... and it won't be lesbians this time.).

Simple case of DISTRACTION

My on-going BATTLE with Arenal Bungalows aka Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna, Costa Rica has been somewhat of a distraction.

Briefly, I'm a 10% owner of Palo Verde Resort but the majority share holder Eugene 'Gene' Conti has kept me out of the LOOP for the last year or so as to the 'goings-on' of the place- basically IGNORING my inquiries as to 'what's going on?' I just recently learned that it was SOLD and now has been renamed, Arenal Bungalows, owned by a Florida real estate 'flipper', Robert 'Bobby' Blair. WTF?
So hence, the distraction. But not the sort of distraction of the, 'causing me sleepless nights' variety, more like a mosquito bite that continues to ITCH. It's NOT as if I haven't been dealing with this ITCH for the last 4 years. So, I felt I need to do 'SOMETHING' and I did. I started another blog: Arenal Bungalows- My Story basically to accomplish 2 things- 1) So folks considering buying property or doing business in Costa Rica could LEARN from my mistakes and 2) Document my story and struggle for some semblance of justice.

The TRUTH is, Do'in GAY Costa Rica is made up of ONLY 2 people, D'Angelo and myself, michael alan. That's not necessarily a BIG deal, but when you take into account we do EVERYTHING ourselves for the following websites: Travel Costa Rica NOW, Do'in Costa Rica, our YouTube Channel and this blog, we're talking literally thousands (and thousands) of hours of managing, writing, editing, filming, traveling, answering mail, learning internet shit as we go, so when you THINK about it, it's actually kind of impressive. We are definitely NOT complaining. We LOVE what we do.

We don't get PAID a DIME,...

.... with the exception of getting a few bucks for a couple videos we did, that's it. Thousands of HOURS to provide information for people interested in traveling or living in Costa Rica. I work a side job for $4,00 an hour to pay for our basic needs.... again, NOT complaining, wouldn't TRADE my LIFE for anyones. But I can assure you, it's NOT easy. Poor D'Angelo spends so much time on the computer doing all the technical stuff he's developed BIG time problems with his wrists and forearms... just sayin.

That's why we were touched with a very nice donation a couple days ago from a guy who apparently appreciates what we're doing. And from the bottom of our HEARTS we want to say 'thanx'..... you have know idea how much it HELPS. You know who you are. So on behalf of D'Angelo and myself. Do'in GAY Costa Rica just got back from GAY Granada, Nicaragua a couple weeks ago and I promised to post a video we shot of an afternoon around the pool at the Joluva Hotel's other property, Club Alegria. As we explained in our other video about Joluva, the owners, (Jan & Francis) own another property where they're building a small GAY community, which is where the pool is located. Every Wednesday and Sunday they take the guests from Joluva, along with some local boys (LEGAL of course) for a little impromptu pool party.

Guy tries to PICK me UP in the PARK

La Fortuna Costa Rica is a haven for random, GAY sex. Okay, I'm lying. While it is true that many gays live in La Fortuna, and yes, there's often cute guys walking through the park, by no means would it be described as a 'cruisEy' place to pick-UP guys.

Until NOW that is, and I got PROOF! Check OUT this guy trying to pick me up in the park. I've never seen him before in my LIFE, but I'm thinking he must have known who I was, or at least heard I was GAY, because if he didn't, he had some major BALLS to be this blatant.

OH, and is he ever HOT...so eat your hearts out......

Okay, so he wasn't so HOT. It really doesn't matter who he was, I don't like that kind of blatant, over-the-top pick-up. I prefer eye contact, smiles, nods and then a little conversation before I have random, dirty. I'm not really into play and on ones fingers to get someones attention.... just sayin. Although it's been my experience HOT guys don't usually play with their when cruising for guys, it's ALWAYS the fugly guys that do..... what's THAT all about ANYWAY? Gay marriage in Costa Rica

GAY marriage is coming to Costa Rica, it's only a matter of time.
Gay marriage will not be STOPPED- not in Costa Rica, not in New York, not in Maine, or anywhere else for that matter....well, Nigeria may be another 100 years, but other than a few rogue countries, really IT'S only a question of time. Even the religious 'right' knows this deep down in their hateful hearts.

I've come to the conclusion- OLD, BIGOTED, HATE-FILLED, PREJUDICED, BIBLE THUMPER like PEOPLE, who believe they have the monopoloy on morality, MUST DIE and then gay marriage is a shoo-IN. Old, med-evil fucks like Archbishop Hugo Barrantes of Costa Rica (who I've written about on more than one occasion), and the Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell types and ALL the old, conservative, who believe their tripe.....THEY JUST NEED TO DIE... and if they burn in, well, that would be doubly SWEET.

and the like, the baby usually gets NOT only thrown out with the bathwater, but drop KICKED as well.

So, listen to this politically correct speech by a Senator from New York, Diane Savino, who attempted to educate her fellow colleagues before the vote on same-SEX marriage in New York last week, which was soundly defeated by the way. How embarrassing, looks like Iowa is the go-to state..

Joluva Guesthouse Granada Nicaragua UPDATED

Just returned from 4-night stay at the Joluva Hotel in Granada Nicaragua. When traveling to Granada, we usually stay at Joluva and we have reviewed them BEFORE, but the old Video is somewhat 'generic' and we didn't really show the hotel itself or some of the things you can do while there. 'Liquid Lounge- helping bring GAY back to Manuel Antonio'
Manuel Antonio has been a TOP gay tourist destination in Costa Rica for many years, but as of late it seems the only thing GAY about Manuel Antonio, IS the tourists.

Let's take a look:

Latina Lounge- Gay Bar/restaurant- CLOSED.

La Playita in Quepos- Gay Bar/pool/cabinas/dark room- CLOSED.

Big Ruby's (the Mansion)- Gay Hotel- Name change and turned 'straight'.

Tutu Bar- Gay Bar suffering from an identity crisis. Gay then turned 'straight' and now supposedly back to gay. (This totally pisses me OFF, but I'll save that for another post).

AND perhaps the WORST of all:

La Playita- GAY, NUDE BEACH- Still gay, but less NUDE due to a hotel built in close proximity to the beach.

I should mention, two exclusively gay hotels, Villa Roca and Hotel Casa Blanca are still around, Villa Roca stronger than EVER, Casa Blanca a LOT less so.

Anyway....

Needless to SAY, I'm pretty excited about the Liquid Lounge- it's EXACTLY what Manuel Antonio needs to help get their 'GAY' back.... and a club that actually WANTS to be gay, unlike the very TIRED and INSECURE, Tutu Bar.

Liquid Lounge is having their BIG GRAND OPENING on November 28th and I hoping they'll be around long enough to CELEBRATE their 5-year anniversary. I have my fingers crossed but if the folks running the show at Liquid Lounge understand MARKETING and the value of sound management, there is NO reason they shouldn't become the definition of gay nightlife in Manuel Antonio. *It would be nice if gay locals showed their support as well.

Maybe it's a pipe dream, but I would love to see Manuel Antonio become to Costa Rica what Mykonos is to Greece, which if you don't know, is WAY GAY.

Hotel Kekoldi can BITE ME!

Hotel Kekoldi in San Jose Costa Rica is not only gay owned and operated, but gay, gay friendly, straight, straight-friendly.... and as if that weren't enough- kid and family friendly also.... hmmmmmm, interesting MIX, is that even possible?

Our recent REVIEW of Hotel Kekoldi generated 25 email responses to date. Fifteen people agreed with me (higher than I would have expected), four saw my point but didn't see the BIG DEAL, while six others totally disagreed (WTF?) This post is specifically for the 6 who obviously have the brain density of a BRICK. Everyone else can go find something else to do if they want... I'd understand.

To the 6: I'll try to use short sentences for obvious reasons... but will BREAK it DOWN further so you'll have a better understanding of why I think you're ALL so RETARDED.

Just to be CLEAR, Hotel Kekolid as a hotel is pretty NICE. But I'm not talking about that.

Hotel Kekoldi DOES promote itself (BIG TIME) as a GAY HOTEL. In the GOOGLE search bar type 'gay hotel Costa Rica'.

But they're not STUPID, they know gay people almost always put the word 'gay' in the search bar no matter what they happen to be searching for, hotels or otherwise, and straight people obviously DON'T- ever. On many websites that provide travel information to the 'gay' traveler interested in 'staying gay' while in Costa Rica, Hotel Kekoldi also is highly visible. Don't believe me.... go HERE. This looks like it could be a paid advertisement or perhaps a link exchange with this particular travel site since there's some 'gay' hotels missing from the San Jose area like Casa69 and Casa Rainbow Canyon, but whatever. This is just one of many examples of Hotel Kekoldi passing itself off as gay on gay travel sites.

See the difference? Even an inbred from the backwoods of Appalachia recognizes the colors of GAY. Did you hover over the flag... so, if you decide as a 'straight' person to book a room at Casa69, you know, or should know that two guys could be next door. NO SURPRISES at Casa69 and that IS the difference.

But, there is NOTHING GAY about Hotel Kekoldi, NOTHING, NADA, not even a picture of a torso. Although the receptionist when we were there was HOT..... fuck..... Anyway. I wonder why that is when Hotel Kekoldi obviously goes after the gay dollar? Hmmmmmm.

Hotel Kekoldi in San Jose Costa Rica is a gay, gay-friendly, straight, straight-friendly, kid and family friendly (WOW impressive friendliness) hotel in Barrio Amon, which is conveniently located close to just about ANYTHING you would want to do in San Jose.

FULL DISCLOSURE CLAUSE: I don't really know the owner of Kekoldi although I've met him a couple times, but in my opinion he has the personality of a piece of wood and if he can string more than 6 words together... well actually, I'm not sure he can. To say he's not much of a talker would be an understatement. But accept for the fact he threatened me once, I really don't have a reason technically not to like him... maybe he was in a bad mood or something. In all fairness, he doesn't care for me either, which I understand- on the first video REVIEW we did of Kekoldi, we DID NOT do what we said we would (it was a TOTAL mis-communication between myself and D'Angelo) but NO EXCUSES, the owner of Kekoldi had good reason to be UPSET and although he was a tad unprofessional about it, he was RIGHT. We promptly pulled the video down.

This is our second video REVIEW with the appropriate CHANGES. So, to Mr. Kekoldi, my apologies:

*Location, location, location.
*Architecturally pleasing
*Good Breakfast
*Nice Garden area
*The receptionist was HOT!

The 'Bad' of Kekoldi:

*Time spent waiting to get BUZZED in and out of the Security Gate
*Can be fairly Noisy (inside and outside)
*We had water issues with the shower, to be fair, this could have been situational

and the 'UGLY' of Kekoldi (in my opinion)

*NOTHING gay about Kekoldi (if they didn't make such a BIG deal about being a gay hotel, I wouldn't care).
*Kekoldi has NO personality (this link is my first write up on Kekoldi when I was a little more about the 'gay' thing.)

Playing GAY is one thing - actually BEING GAY is quite another.

So, just on principle, I wouldn't stay there- that is my Final Answer.

Even Ted knows it- Gay and Straight prostitution is LEGAL in Costa Rica- PERIOD. I don't know what to tell you.

I didn't get TONS of emails crucifying me for supposedly 'promoting' underage sex in Costa Rica and lacking in overall moral fiber (that latter may be somewhat true), but I got enough that I feel inclined to respond. This is the post in question: GAY Prostitution INFO

First off, I find it amusing I have so many readers who are obviously 'VERY right of Reagan'. Either they're policing 'the enemy', or can't help but be drawn to the darker side of gay within themselves. Anyway...

Prostitution is legal here, I don't write the laws. I'm not promoting anything. I write based on my knowledge, experience and observations while living the 'gay' life in Costa Rica. Whatever the that means. I know the law but I also know many prostitutes and 'gay for pay' guys... as well as the guys who want to 'get' with them. Stay at any 'gay' or 'gay friendly' hotel in Costa Rica and you meet LOTS of people. So yeah,I can provide some insight to the gay traveler that they may or may not know.

I realize underage sex happens here, although I haven't seen it, I have seen HUGE gaps in age, such as a 72-year old getting with an 18-year old 'gay for pay' boy. *Personally, I have no problem with this arrangement as long as it's legal and ALL parties act accordingly- (I don't define 'accordingly', they do). Pedophiles and 'Chester the Molester' types are the exception... BUT PLEEEZE, there are 'bad' people in all walks of life... I'm a strong critic of the Catholic Church, but I don't believe for a minute they all abuse alter boys, it's ALWAYS a small percentage of folks who fuck it up for the rest of us. And of course the media ATTENTION for types and the clergy HELP sell NEWS (advertisement) and ALWAYS makes the problem appear MUCH worse than it really is. I'm not sayin it's not an ISSUE, I'm just sayin.

Why am I explaining this SHIT to a couple of dozen WANKERS who I KNOW have more of a problem with SEX itself than prostitution- obviously raised to believe sex is somewhat DIRTY, which in turn fosters various sexual hang-ups and self-esteem issues these WANKERS undoubtedly possess... AND I'll bet they haven't been in like forever- I mean REALLY . My advice to you WANKERS:

GAY Prostitution INFO

Prostitution is LEGAL in Costa Rica, so many come here solely for the SEX... nothing wrong with that as not everyone's into sloths and whitewater rafting. Age of consent for any SEX is 18. Don't be mislead or misinformed by some of the 'sketchier' websites out there, BELIEVE ME, it's 18.

GAY sex is readily accessible in Costa Rica and I've already mentioned in previous posts how 'easy' the guys are here. It seems like even MOST of the straight Tico's (at least after 2 beers) are willing to be 'gay for pay', sometimes even 'gay' without the 'pay'- this is a GOOD thing.

First, the downside of prostitution. Be AWARE, just because it's LEGAL, you can still encounter the same problems you'd expect to find on the 'illegal' or seedier side of prostitution, such as drug use, crime, petty theft, STD's, AIDS and underage prostitutes. Know your surroundings and just because a kid tells you he's 18 doesn't necessarily make it so. You are NOT innocent until proven guilty in Costa Rica so don't let your vacation turn into an unintended, EXTENDED one.

Looking for gay sex? Personally, I'd stay away from the streets boys. Craigslist and other social networking sites are low risk with many options. There's bath houses, such as Club Hispalis, which is probably one the BEST and BIGGEST in San Jose. Club Hispalis has great facilities, theme nights, shows and a bar and snack area. Of course any of the gay bars in San Jose are hook-up possibilities (the links go to their individual sites for the latest Nightly activities, Prices and Specials): Bochinches, Pucho's, La Avispa and Club Oh, especially PUCHO's. And MOST gay and/or gay friendly hotels offer 'massages' from boys that offer BETTER than 'Happy Endings'. Also most of these hotels can get YOU in touch with someone to 'show you around' or take you OUT Clubbin if you're traveling solo, obviously for a PRICE.

A popular GAY magazine here is Gente10, a good resource for GAY info. Gente10 is in Spanish, but you can get the jest of EVENTS, times and so forth, and they also have a map with all the gay HOT spots marked.

A few CRUISY areas in San Jose are La Sabana Park (Sabana gets sketchy at night), the National Park (north of Avenida 1, Between Calles 15 &19) and the Plaza de la Cultura which is in front of the National Theatre (between Calles 3 & 5) during late afternoons and early evenings.

If all else fails, taxi drivers can ALWAYS take you to whatever it is you want to get INTO- CAREFUL, some are sketchier than others.

Stuff to consider when playing in the SEX world. Take taxi's at night. Leave valuables in your hotel room. Know your surroundings. Don't get TOO up. Consider getting your Hepatitis B shot before coming to Costa Rica (talk to your doctor about Hepatitis). Obviously condoms.... and know that many guys here will have unprotected SEX (I wrote about Tico's and unprotected SEX) and most gay boys will will say, 'NO' to condoms for an EXTRA charge. While cruising the bars, be careful, the guy you're CHECKING out and HOOKING up with could be a hustler and expect payment for services after the fact. Most gay and gay friendly hotels will let you bring a 'guest' back to your room, but they usually have to register with the front desk and have ID.

The 3-inch penis, Archbishop Hugo Barrantes Urena of San Jose, is at it again in Costa Rica. Hugo, who is Jerry Falwell with a BETTER wardrobe, happens to be the President of the Costa Rican Bishops' Conference (Being 158 years old has its privileges in the Catholic Church), so I'm sure they're obligated to let this 'dinosaur' speak from time to time. , a dinosaur with a 3-inch , that's gotta SUCK.

When Hugo's dinosaur friends made fun of his exceptionally small penis, he was often comforted by the lead singer of 'CREED'.

Hugo Barrantes just gave a homily a few days ago and his 'theme', surprise, surprise- 'family and marriage'. You got to admit, pretty ironic for someone to PREACH about 'marriage and family'- who's got NEITHER.

'The Archbishop centered his homily especially on the theme of the family and marriage, reminding couples to remain strong and not let themselves be overcome by the “constant threats of deterioration and original sin.” There are several draft bills being discussed in the Legislative Assembly that would be better not approved, “as they are contrary to human dignity, such as abortion and the day-after pill, and same-sex unions, which are an offense to God.”

I don't believe in the Biblical 'God', but lets say I did- the fact HUGO implies he KNOWS what offends GOD is in itself OFFENSIVE, pretentious and ARROGANT. Hugo needs slapped off his pedestal by 'Biblical God.' I dare you to send your 9-year old son to do your bidding at your next business meeting.

If their were something to debate with Hugo Barrantes and the roman Catholic Church, I would get in LINE, but it would be like debating Santa Clause with a 5-year old and I wouldn't do that either. I know the Bible better than most Christians and the fact they cherry-pick verses and interpret them to meet their own agenda, well, I just got NO TIME. When we start killing folks for not observing the Sabbath, or stoning a woman who can't prove she's a virgin on her wedding night- then maybe, just maybe, we'll discuss the whole, "gay is an abomination thing'.

What PISSES me off about our esteemed Archbishop Hugo Barrantes and the Catholic Church here in Costa Rica, is it's NOT really about 'marriage and family'. The so-called, 'protection' of marriage and family is a RUSE and I say HUGO and the Church are a bunch of PUSSIES. Why? Because what they really want to say is this:

"I'll take my chances on HELL everyday of the WEEK and twice on Sunday's."

Unfortunately for the church, they can't be so 'fire and brimstone' ANYMORE, at least not publicly. It's a little too over the TOP. Years back, yes. Now, no. The Church and the 3-inch penis know they'd be criticized WORLDWIDE for their backward, archaic thinking if they were to actually come OUT and say what they really BELIEVED. Gay is gaining momentum, and they need to TREAD lightly.... just in case they need to do some back peddling (which they will, mark my words). So that's where the 'ruse' of protecting 'family and marriage' comes in- their WEAK, last ditch effort to keep gay at bay for awhile. They will eventually LOSE.

But this isn't my BIGGEST concern either. I KNOW what's going to happen. Even though many young, GAY Tico's are coming OUT sooner, there's still many young, gay Costa Rican's who actually believe HUGO sits on the right hand side of GOD- and they ARE my CONCERN. They go to bed at night praying NOT to be gay, they frequently suffer from low self-esteem and suicide can often creep into their thoughts.... AND especially if their parents are part of Archbishop Hugo's, fucked up 'flock'. This is the REAL reason I give Hugo and the CHURCH the I do. Being a kid is already hard enough- I do remember the anguish.

I saw an excellent movie last night, called: 'Prayers for Bobby'. It's fairly new, we found it on the internet. People NEED to see it. Look for it.

Hotel Abercam- just another NIGHT?

A night at La Fortuna Costa Rica's only EXCLUSIVELY GAY, MEN ONLY hotel, Abercam La Fortuna, is always a great way to spend a Friday night.

We hadn't been up to Abercam to see Tim and Wayne in awhile, so with our friends Henry and Christoper in tow, we headed up there last night.

*Oh, this pic of me has no relevance to this post. I took it 2 days ago and wanted to show it. I don't think it's too bad for a few months away from 50. What do you think?

Anyway...

A evening at Abercam usually consists of the following AND pretty much in this exact order. Hugs and kisses, pleasantries, drinks, gossip, more drinks, music, juicier gossip, people dancing, shirts off, MORE drinking... and eventually the clothing optional pool gets a work OUT. *I love men ONLY, GAY hotels.

NOT the party at ABERCAM La Fortuna... but very well COULD be.
Fast forward to the clothing optional pool. Henry is what we would say here in Costa Rica, 'poco picado' (a little buzzed). Okay, maybe more than a little. Now remember Henry, I write about him frequently, but if you don't know,,, he's 37, deep in the CLOSET, still lives with his family, an elementary school teacher, somewhat simple minded, very nice, and little 'man on man' sexual experiences... and what little he does do, he has to plan for, because "tires him out". As a matter of fact, Henry's GAY gay sexual experience, I wrote about: Henry finally SCORES at Abercam.

Henry inches OUT of the CLOSET every so often, but he ALWAYS has his hand on the door.
Really, the last 6 months or so, Henry has been MUCH more interested in exploring his GAYNESS (I deserve a little credit for this), especially on this night after a few cocktails and double especially when some 'gringo' is giving him a back massage in the pool. And that's 'above' water, their body language suggested a lot was going on 'underneath' the water as well. I'm not going to mention who the gringo was, but let's just say it was in Henry's BEST interest to explore his gayness with this guy.*I wish my friends would let me use MY pics from our 'little' pool parties, they'd be much better and HOTTER

Henry disappears. Returns about an hour later. The GLOW on his face pretty much said it ALL... and of course like a 13 year old who wants to brag to this friends about getting his first dick hair, Henry told us he got like a rock star- TWICE.

I'm happy for Henry, but damn it, he didn't use a condom. I'm definitely not 'judging', because when I came 'OUT', I was just as RECKLESS, probably more so, and to this day I am still capable of making some pretty STUPID decisions in this area. Henry is mad, disappointed and frustrated with himself and doesn't need anyone to give him a hard time. Actually, he needs quite the opposite- a little empathy and understanding- I don't want Henry to be so down on himself he stops exploring his sexuality.

Bochinche GAY bar My FINAL Answer

Bochinche GAY Lounge and Bar in San Jose, Costa Rica- this is my FINAL ANSWER!
I LOVE Bochinche's. No matter what I said here- GAY Costa Rica- Bochinche's Night Club in San Jose or here, Bochinche Bar & Lounge REVISITED.

Bochinche's is still one of my favorite Costa Rican gay bars.

On Thursday night, Bochinche's is a GREAT place to hang-OUT, chat, have a few cocktails... and CATCH a very GOOD drag show. AND you GRINGO's, you can HOOK-UP if you so desire. On this particular Thursday night, it was ALL that and MORE. *wink* Thursday does draw a little more of a mixed crowd than does Friday and Saturday night when it tends to be more of a party/club scene (a good thing). People come to Bochinche's on Thursday night to chat, mingle and catch the show.

TWINKies are not the main course on Thursday nights at Bochinche's.

We had a great time as usual, and the place was PACKED as usual. The music in the background is SO good it's hard not to dance where ever you happen to be standing....and many people do, although it still takes 10 minutes to get to the bathroom,,,, and you have to be somewhat AGGRESSIVE making your way to the downstairs bar to get a BEER- welcome to Bochinche's. But as you will see in the VIDEO below, the DRAG show is usually Top Shelf.

So, Thursday night at Bochinche's is HIGHLY recommended, but you can be sure we'll be out again at Bochinche on Friday and Saturday night searching for the perfect Hostess snacking cake with the creamy white filling...whoo hoo!

I really do LOVE Bochinche's- and that is my FINAL ANSWER!

Young GAY Tico's coming OUT sooner

'Gay' is coming OUT sooner in Costa Rica!
GAY takes a positive step forward in Costa Rica. WHOO HOO! I always LOVE hearing good GAY news and in Costa Rica no less, where gay and good news aren't usually found in the same sentence.

There was an article in one of the Spanish newspapers, La Teja, about how young gay Tico's are coming out of the proverbial CLOSET earlier and earlier. La Teja reported many gay youth are claiming their homosexuality between the ages of 12-15. I give serious PROPS to ANY young gay boy or girl who can come OUT at such a young age, especially here. I've only written about it a few hundred times how difficult GAY can be in Costa Rica. And of course I put most of the blame where it belongs, squarely on the shoulders of Archbishop Hugo Barrantes and the Roman Catholic Church. But I'll leave them out of this post.

My Spanish isn't all that, but I think I understood most of the article. Unfortunately, it wasn't all good gay news and with progress there's usually some problems as well. In this case, the schools and Costa Rican society in general aren't quite sure how to handle GAY... and gay at such a young age. So these gay kids have run into discrimination, humiliation and prejudicial treatment for who they are. School seems to be a particular concern and teachers and administrators appear ill equipped (or unwilling) to deal with such a sensitive issue. The article even mentioned the Harvey Milk High School in New York City, which was designed to be a safe space for students regardless of sexual orientation. A school like Harvey Milk in Costa Rica would be perfect now, although progress is being made, much of the country still regards homosexuality as a sin... gay Tico's need a safe place to LEARN.

Obviously more needs to be done and people who work with kids need to be educated and given the tools to deal with young gay minds, but all in all, a positive stEP. GAY is being talked about and that's a good thing.

Catholic Church will LOSE their INFLUENCE... Amen

Archbishop Hugo Barrantes and the Catholic Church in Costa Rica can only HOPE for the days of OLD.
While this post isn’t exactly gay in nature, its significance to gays in Costa Rica is TENFOLD.

They may want to start praying for DIVINE intervention.

"The Roman Catholic Church has been trying to rally support after a proposal to cut off government funding surfaced in the Legislative Assembly this month.

With 13 congressional signatures – distributed across party lines – the bill is beginning to muster the support it needs to edit the Catholic Church out of the Costa Rican constitution.

The constitution presently provides for the Roman Catholic Church as “the religion of the state” and mandates “contributions to its maintenance.”

Finally, the Costa Rican government wants religion OUT of politics. Archbishop Barrantes and his cronies are finally being FORCED to read the writing on the WALL, and I can assure you- underneath those fabulous robes in rectories across Costa Rica- nut sacs are SWEATING. It’s not exactly the, ‘beginning of the END’ for the Catholic Church in Costa Rica, because the beginning has already begun.. but the END is drawing near and the fact this issue is even being discussed should SCARE the out of the CHURCH, because if HISTORY is any indication, it's just a matter of time...THANK GOD. This should be seen as a VICTORY not only for gays, but free thinking Costa Ricans EVERYWHERE.

Personally, I don’t think this has a chance in HELL to pass right NOW, but that’s not the POINT. It’s being talked about, separation of church and state; let the politicians do their thing and religion do theirs- without ‘blending’ the two. It’s FORWARD thinking and we all know Costa Rica LOVES to think of themselves as one of the MORE progressive Central American countries in order to impress their much bigger, INFLUENTIAL brother, the United States. Continuing to give the 'church' this much CLOUT in politics will EVENTUALLY be seen as the archaic practice that it IS. So maybe not NOW, but soon the Catholic Church here will be relegated to just another kid in the classroom hoping to be called upon. I know it... and Hugo Barrantes and the Catholic Church know it- their days are numbered and there’s not a DAMN thing they can do about it (insert DIVINE intervention HERE), although they will attempt to herd the sheep and circle the wagons, Custer had better odds.

Whether gay in Costa Rica or Gay for Pay in Costa Rica, Gay is GAY.
For me, being Gay in Costa Rica is somewhat akin to being a ‘kid in a candy store’ when it comes to SEX. The potential for ‘man on man’ SEX is pretty much everywhere, as just about any TICO, straight or gay, is a hook-up possibility and more likely, a PROBABILITY. The popular gay fantasy to have SEX with a straight guy is more than a mere fantasy down here- this my GAY friends, is a GOOD thing. Who KNEW in a country where, ‘the, Archbishop Hugo Barrantes, who has MUCH influence over what Costa Ricans think, that straight guys, would be so open to Whoo HOO! Let me explain. *I should note, that practically EVERYONE will denounce gay publicly, but don’t let THAT deter you, it means little.

There are a hundred reasons for hiGH Tico sexuality, but I’m only going to mention a few and I’m NOT going to explain them, I don’t want this to turn into a Sociology Paper.

Simple country. Laid back attitude. Large families. Rural settings. Catholic Church. Peeing outside. Making-out at an early age. Spending MUCH time together. Close quarters. Seeing each other naked- a lot. Comfortable with TOUCH. Catholic Church’s promotion of procreation. Sexual experimentation. Greeting the opposite sex with kissing on the cheek. Same-sex affection with touching. Public displays of affection are normal. Girls pregnant at a young age. Macho Latin attitude… to name ONLY a few.

I swear, 2 days ago, I watched (remember, our apartment overlooks the park, so don’t go there) a group of 5 guys, about 14-years old, play with each other, stroke their own over their trousers, laugh, get hard-ons, punch each other, hump each others’ leg… and this was 2 o’clock in the afternoon. They didn’t care… and weren’t looking around to see if anyone was watching them, HELL, the park was reasonably busy and they did these behaviors even when people walked by. I can assure you this was not an isolated event, as I’ve seen all kinds of ‘sexual behavior’ in the park the last 4 years, and take my word; no one gives it a SECOND thought.

And luckily, the straight ones don’t consider themselves gay at all, they’ve adopted a GREEK attitude, that is, if you’re the one then you’re the MAN (figuratively and literally), SO gay doesn’t apply and straight guys don’t normally take the passive role here, (although I have seen it on occasion).

This is where ‘gay for pay’ comes in- fairly normal down here in the GAY world. I know straight guys who leave their wives in the morning, around with guys during the day and are back for gallo pinto with their families by 6:00pm. But gay for pay doesn’t always just mean SEX. Often it’s just companionship, talking, giving attention… but it’s TRUE, usually it is about the SEX. Either way, straight guys here have no problem playing, ‘gay for pay’.

Obviously, they do this mostly for the money. But it’s the enthusiasm in which they do it that’s interesting. In the States, a straight guy who would do this would tend to have somewhat of an attitude, or at least make it CLEAR, proclaiming, “I’m NOT really GAY”, but HERE, it’s like they can’t believe they’re getting (it’s not like these guys are professionals) and likewise, ‘paid’ can mean just about anything from a dinner out to a new laptop. They’re NOT gay and they know it,

Remember, we’re just talking straight guys here; gay ones are just as SWEET… and willing.

So, what does all this mean?

GAY RIGHTS- Uruguay leads the CHARGE

Gay Costa Rica needs to take a VICTORY in the fight for GAY rights where ever it can, and on this go around, we're CELEBRATING with our Latin American gay brothers and sisters from Uruguay where they just approved Latin America's FIRST gay adoption law. That's RIGHT, Uruguay is heading the GAY rights CHARGE and setting the EXAMPLE for the rest of Latin America. First they legalized gay unions, and now gay adoptions. FULL STORY here.

Uruguay? Who knew- Ahead of Costa Rica AND the UNITED STATES in recognizing that gays are pretty normal after all. I FIRST realized we were normal when I heard the American Psychological Association declared: GAYS CAN'T BE TURNED STRAIGHT! I also wrote about the strides Uruguay was making with GAY rights in this article: Making the USA a BOTTOM. Personally, I think it's pretty embarrassing, especially for Costa Rica, who somewhat PRIDES itself in being one of the more 'advanced' Latin American countries. Whatever, that's mostly marketing anyway. It should be noted, Uruguay's opposition to gay adoption WAS those FUCKS, the Catholic Church, who are just as influential there as Hugo Barrantes is HERE. This should be inspirational to GAY Costa Ricans and their supporters to know Gay Civil Unions and GAY adoption are within REACH. Although in Costa Rica's case, it's definitely time to be a little more 'aggressive' in the FIGHT.

But what was fairly humorous, were the arguments from the Catholics in Uruguay against GAY adoption. Listen to these weak-ass arguments by the 3-inch penises in Uruguay.

The Catholic Church is against the bill because "from Genesis in the Bible, it says that 'God created man and woman,'" Bishop Paul Galimbertti told AFP.

"The position of the Church is very clear on this issue," he said, adding "there is no proof that adoption by homosexuals is a positive thing."

The archbishop of Montevideo, Nicolas Cotugno, said before the vote that it would be a "serious error to accept the adoption of children by homosexual couples."

"It's not about religion, philosophy or sociology. It's something which is mainly about the respect of human nature itself," Cotugno said in a statement.

These arguments and statements are so pathetic and WEAK I can't even bother answering to them. The folks at the Vatican should be embarrassed.

i have a DREAM- a gay bar in Fortuna

La Fortuna, Costa Rica needs a gay bar, you know, because it already has a church. And I'm just the guy to get GAY started here in Fortuna.
I've written a LOT about the amount of gay ticos in La Fortuna and that's TRUE, but it's also TRUE that most fags in Fortuna, or Costa Rica for that matter, are CLOSETED (read more about that HERE), and that is a SERIOUS consideration when contemplating the success of a gay bar here. But I've weighed the PROS and CONS.

I want to OPEN this gay bar/lounge here in the middle of La Fortuna Costa Rica because I think they just may be READY for a more GAY Fortuna. They already have a MEN only GAY Hotel: Abercam, so that's covered. And as long as it's not blatantly GAY from the outside, then maybe, just maybe, it just might fly... over time.

Here's the plan. A small establishment, intimate, bar, couches, tables, small dance floor, maybe even a couple 'rooms' for whatever comes up. But more on the lively side, not 'drab', but NOT a club-like atmosphere either. Decorated tastefully, yet VERY gay. Subtle lighting, not too 'bright', not too dark. (So people as old as myself can still look good with adequate back lighting....hehe). This will be first and foremost a gayTICO establishment, catering to local gay Tico's. This of course will bring in the gay GRINGO's and eventually,.. from all OVER the GLOBE... yeah, I said it. Have you seen Christopher? Did I mention prostitution is legal in Costa Rica... just sayin.

My gay bar/club will be IN Fortuna, but off a side street somewhere. The grounds will be surrounded in lush vegetation and will be secluded and private... you can't have a GAY bar in the middle of Fortuna, no Tico would dare be seen entering, obviously due to the Roman Catholic influence here. So, privacy and comfortability would be a MUST.

*An alternate plan is to purchase a house and semi-convert it into a VERY gay bar/lounge/club/bathhouse/dwelling etc. I almost think I like this idea BETTER. what do you think?

Not exactly THIS, but I like the casualness of it... and the lighting.
I of course would hire cute GAY guys and also have something going on EVERY Friday and Saturday and maybe even a weekday night, regardless of how many people turned OUT, but normally I would be OPEN daily starting around 4:00 and closing LATE, again, REGARDLESS.

I'm not STUPID, it would take this place a GOOD year to even begin to make money, if that soon. My gay bar/lounge would MAKE it because of TIME and consistency... and of course GREAT marketing. WE do have a FEW ways to get the word OUT... in case you haven't noticed. But I would carry a FULL staff, through thick and thin. I would invite all my gay friends, travel agents, whoever to FREE Friday night... and I would make sure they HAD a good TIME- HOT shot boys, jello shots, dancable music, did I mention cute gay TICO's.... , I would provide happy endings if need be. Don't get me wrong, we'll have the 'fun nights' but day in and day out, my gay bar would be a nice little place to gather- a place a tico could be gay for awhile without receiving ANY consequences. I would have money to pay a full staff for 2 years... no matter what, if only to stand around and LOOK pretty for me. See what I'm sayin?

Gay in Costa Rica makes the mistake of believing 'gay' will make money the minute GAY opens. You need some capital to establish yourself as the real thing and not a fly by night. People need to get comfortable. And again, I wouldn't be focusing on gay travel(er's) per se, although I would eventually GET them.

"Okay, so what do you think? Are you with me? Who's on board? I only need a couple hundred thousand.

WHAT! You didn't think I had that kind of money did you.... I need an investor with some VISION to get this thing GOING. You're the money- I'm the guy in Fortuna.....

GAY in Costa Rica is NO different from GAY anywhere- meaning, GAYS in a group, are even more GAY.
Us GAYS can be a rather aggressive/assertive BUNCH in surroundings where WE gather in MASS- such as gay clubs, gay bars, PRIDE events, parades etc. And DOUBLY so when on the prowl in said GAY surroundings. In other words- GAYS develop a BIG nut-sac in their own environment, one they wouldn’t normally show in the ‘outside’ world. Hell, in comfortable surroundings, Gays are MUCH more aggressive in PURSUIT of sex than their ‘straight’ counterparts, since in the ‘straight’ world, a guy wouldn’t normally grab a girl’s tits and say, “What I could do with THOSE nipples.” Well, let me tell you, in the GAY world...

And the gay ‘STARE DOWN’- well let’s just say IF it’s the right guy STARing- it’s fuck’in HOT. But, Chester, the GAY molester, RAPING you with his eyes- REPULSIVE to say the least. And don’t get me started on the 'ol gay perv pissin next to you at one of San Jose's more RAUNCHIER gay clubs, but also one of my favorites, Pucho’s, who looks over (and down) and mumbles, “Nice Cock.” UGH!

No matter HOW GAY you are, sometimes you're just NOT in the MOOD.
What I like about Costa Rican Fags is they’re aggressive in a more friendly assertive way rather than being overtly aggressive, if that makes sense. They know what they like and they go after it… but in gay, Tico like fashion. They’re not going to grab your nipple, but it's TRUE they may tell you they would LIKE to grab your nipple… see the difference?

My neighbor and I combined our weight equipment and decided to put it in his apartment- so that’s where I used to work out. There’s a small hallway, where if the door was open, you could see when we were working out.

I knew he was gay the first time I saw him, no gaydar required, maybe it was the way he was staring at me when I was doing curls. Luckily, it wasn’t in a Chester, the GAY molester, sort of way, but I’m positive he would have sucked on my nipples if given half a chance… just sayin. About 24, cute enough in a cuddly, teddy bear way, but not really mine or DAngelo’s type, but in a gay PINCH… who knows. *This pic of me was taken on the EXACT day he watched me do curls.

I ended up talking to him, but only with basic Spanish, as he didn’t speak English and my Spanish, well my Spanish (or lack thereof) will be given its own post in the near future. So needless to say, this was strictly a, “¿Como estas?” “Muy bien y usted?” conversation.

That was about 11 months ago. I’ve seen him plenty of times since, but only to say ‘Hola, ¿Como estas?’ as we pass.

He knows I help out in a coffee store below our apartment from time to time and about 2 weeks ago, he saw me working, ALONE, and came in.

And as usual, the same pleasantries- ¿Como estas?

30 seconds in, he makes the universal sign for sucking dick and says, “mamar”, which is the verb, ‘to suck’…. hell, even I knew that one, followed by a murmuring of, “¿Quieres que chuparte? Basically asking if I wanted my dick sucked.

What a beginning to a beautiful day at work... pura vida Bitches.

Well a few of you think I’m going to HELL for my comments about the very anti-GAY, very COSTA RICAN, Archbishop Hugo Barrantes. I think it’s because in a few of my posts I compared him to a PENIS. Whoops! I guess it’s not cool to compare God’s Costa Rican mouthpiece to male genitalia, even when using the politically correct term. Now in my opinion, if I'd have called H, that's lame. Why GAYS even entertain the likes of Hugo and the church, baffles my mind.

So, Hugo, pardon me if I don’t kiss your hand if we were ever to meet and REALLY.... I wouldn't debate you on the 'gay' issues anyway- debating would mean I give your med-evil and archaic views some sort of RELEVANCE- which I DON'T. But you're more than welcome to KISS my hand.

GAYS CAN'T BE TURNED STRAIGHT!

Here's the SCOOP, it just came out a few days ago. The full article is HERE.

"The American Psychological Association declared Wednesday that mental health professionals should not tell gay clients they can become straight through therapy or other treatments. blah... blah... blah... In a resolution adopted on a 125-to-4 vote by the APA's governing council, and in a comprehensive report based on two years of research, the 150,000-member association put itself firmly on record in opposition of so-called "reparative therapy" which seeks to change sexual orientation."

It went on to say:

"The APA task force took as a starting point the belief that homosexuality is a normal variant of human sexuality, not a disorder, and that it nonetheless remains stigmatized in ways that can have negative consequences."

Wow, it’s nice to see the APA is ‘firmly’ with us, so how long did it take to ‘put itself firmly on record’? They’ve known homosexuality was not a ‘mental disorder’ for like 40 years. WTF? Although I do wanna chat with the 4 who voted against this resolution. I can only assume they believed the resolution didn’t go FAR enough; it can’t possibly be the 4 still believe homosexuality is a choice and can be cured.

I suppose I should be overGAYed at the resolution… and I do realize this is yet another small step to the inevitable outcome of overall acceptance which the church and fanatical conservative types just can’t wrap their tiny little minds around.. But it’s just SAD to me being the 21st century and all that we still discuss this . Take my word for it, most of us already know we’re normal-

Casa Rainbow Canyon in San Jose

GAY San Jose's new GAY in town, Casa Rainbow Canyon
GAY San José, Costa Rica has a NEW ‘gay’ in town and it’s called Casa Rainbow Canyon- an Exclusively GAY, Men ONLY, Gay HOTEL or Gay B&B, whichever you prefer to call it. But officially, Casa Rainbow Canyon is a GAY Bed and Breakfast… but take my word, an upscale Gay B&B (in looks an amenities, not PRICE).

If I said it once, I’ve said it a million-zillion times- I prefer my GAY hotels- GAY. Read that as lube on the nightstand (semi-kidding), gay artwork on the wall, clothing optional pool complete with GREEK statues, cute staff, access to porno (also semi-kidding)… and I don’t want to see a person below the age of 18 within 2 miles, or the parents of, for that matter. I think I’ve made it pretty clear what I think about the whole, ‘gay friendly’ hotel thing>. If you’re going to go ‘that’ route, I do appreciate the stance of the Gaia Hotel and Reserve in Manuel Antonio, they say they’re ‘ADULT ONLY’, but believe me, I’ve been there, they LOVE gay guys and they do advertise in the ‘gay’ travel world of Costa Rica- NO PROBLEM.

Back to Casa Rainbow Canyon

No fence riding here. Casa Rainbow Canyon is GAY. They’re located in Santa Ana which is located about 20 minutes from the San Jose Airport.

Without getting into it here, just let me say that Costa Rica can be quite a difficult place for the average foreigner to build something in, but Wayne, the owner of Casa Rainbow Canyon is an architect and he definitely had it done right.

He lives in El Castillo. El Castillo is a small town located about 45 minutes from La Fortuna but is becoming somewhat of a sought after Costa Rican destination in and of itself. El Castillo is around the Arenal lake on the other side of the volcano and has stunning views of both the lake and the volcano. It’s popular with backpackers, environmentalists and eco-friendly types and just about anyone else wanting to explore off the beaten path. Personally, I would recommend a visit.

I met Jonathan about 2 years ago. He speaks good English, somewhat shy upon first meeting, is articulate, well-mannered and instantly likable. He’s somewhat of a ‘pleaser’ and will go out of his way to make things better. He’s a tad effeminate but I would say as he becomes more confident in his ‘gayness’ he will probably be a little more flaming… and I do NOT say that in a bad way. He’d be more of a flamer in ‘looks’ than in ‘actions’, you know, like any other fashion designer you've ever seen.

Since I’ve known him, he’s always loved fashion; I would say it’s as much a part of him as Oscar Wilde’s wittiness. He spends hours checking out women’s fashion magazines such as ELLE, GLAMOUR and COSMO trying to keep up with the LATEST.. as well as getting new ideas for his own designs.

He's got the RAW talent, just needs a Teacher>>>>>>>

I've seen his portfolio- he's got TONS of drawings- very creative and imaginative. He's also quite talented with this shoe designs. Jeffrey Campbell and the folks at Pour La Victoire would be impressed.

Besides his general likability, I love his DRIVE.

He knows what he wants, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get there. This is often a trait not seen in such a young gay Tico. He juggles going to school, working sometimes 3 jobs (teaching English, working in a pizza shop etc.) in order to accumulate money, not only for his magazines and ever growing collection of shoes, but also for his FUTURE. His family is not wealthy by any means and although he knows what he wants, he’s not quite sure how he’s going to get there. His hope is to get a scholarship to a fashion design college in San José.

I want to HELP him. I would just hate to see Jonathan end up like many other Tico’s- working in the tourism industry as a hotel receptionist or something similar because his English is good, but NO REAL future. He has so much more to offer. Unfortunately, money for Jonathan and his family is a problem as it pertains to his future and I know he needs some HELP. I don’t want his DREAM to be crushed only for lack of money.

Don Rufino's and Friends like These

GAY discrimination did happen at Don Rufinos in La Fortuna Costa Rica.
The Don Rufino’s GAY discrimination thing happened so long ago I can’t even remember if it was 2 OR 3 years ago. Don’t know about it… read it here, but you don’t have too, you will still get the gist of this post.

The Don Rufino’s situation still bothers me to THIS day.

Not because we were discriminated against in an UGLY way, nor for the FACT our then, ‘gay friend and part owner of Rufinos’ never made it RIGHT (well, that still bothers me a little too) but for the fact ALL our ‘friends’, gay or straight, still frequent Don Rufino’s.

There is No disputing what happened. It WAS discrimination and it was because D’Angelo and myself ARE gay. AND it was never made RIGHT by the ‘gay friend and part owner’. Those are the FACTS in a nutshell, like I said, they’re not disputed by ANYONE involved.

Now, this day, it’s just understood that we won’t do anything which includes Don Rufino’s in the equation. So ALL occasions which include a night out of dinner and/or drinks with friends, be it birthday celebrations, anniversary’s, whatever, are handled in one of two ways- we are either NOT invited because Rufino’s is IN the equation (not a problem), or we meet somewhere else to PARTY, like our apartment or Lava Lounge. Everybody’s HAPPY. Kind of.

It’s ALL just accepted as the way things ARE. Not the best of scenarios, but accepted nonetheless. And that’s what bothers me.

I’m positive if a friend had a discriminatory problem in a particular establishment, the problem would be mine as well and I would support the friend through boycotting the establishment. I should note: I don’t necessarily believe in a ‘blind support’, I love you, but you gotta be right, the facts or situation need to basically speak for themselves. This would be a good example, Video: Gran Hotel in San Jose Discriminates. And don’t forget, everyone does AGREE we were discriminated against.

Now in this case, there are mutual friends involved and I understand that. But if I was the mutual friend of both, ‘us’ and the ‘gay part-owner of Rufino’s’, then I would have to put pressure on the friend I believed wrong. I obviously wouldn’t break the friendship of the ‘gay owner’, but I would say that I couldn’t support an establishment who discriminates in any fashion, gay or whatever, but we’d still be friends.

Am I wrong? Is it asking too much? Are the mutual friends unfairly put in the ‘middle’?

It bothers me, that even our gay Tico friend, Henry, goes there. Of all people, he should understand.

So this is what saddens me- since our friends weren’t the target of the discrimination, they obviously see this as NOT their problem. They took themselves out of the ‘middle’ so to speak. Hell, they took themselves out of the ENTIRE equation. To me, this is HUGE.. it’s the BIGGER problem and to me, speaks volumes about people in general. “I can’t see the white robes outside YOUR door from MY house.”

You either get what I’m saying or you don’t… it is not my intent to get into the ‘BIGGER picture’ of the ills of society in this post.

But what IS COOL- we meet tourists in Fortuna everyday and at some point in the conversation it goes like this:

“Hey, can you guys recommend a good place to eat?”

“Wells, there’s Lava Lounge, which we REALLY like, great atmosphere, good food… there’s also Rufino’s, GREAT food and they also get a nice crowd, but REALLY... we don’t go there on PRINCIPLE anymore.”

They always ask WHY?

So what’s COOL about that you ask?

Every ONE of them tells us, “Well, we won't go to Rufino’s then, that.”

>Unconditionally. No questions asked. TOTAL support. They don’t give it another thought.

And HEY RUFINOS! We meet and talk to a LOT of people... and that doesn’t even include the couchsurfers who stay with us.

This totally renews my FAITH in PEOPLE.

As for our ‘friends’…. they’re NOT really. Sad in a way, but it’s the TRUTH, because think about it, what if the really hit the fan?

I’m pretty certain, we’d be standing alone. Unless some couchsurfers happen to be staying with US.

Back from San Jose and a NEW GAY B&B

Casa Rainbow Canyon, the NEW GAY in San Jose Costa Rica.
I hate going very long without posting, but I gotta say we've have been a little busy. Just got back from Santa Ana Costa Rica which is located just outside of San Jose. We visited Casa Rainbow Canyon, a fairly NEW- exclusively GAY, MEN ONLY, Bed and Breakfast. We'll be posting the video in the next week or two, but I will say the place is definitely the new GAY in town and I'll leave it at that, but make SURE you catch the video and the post about Casa Rainbow Canyon.

Is Gay Friendly Costa Rica this GAY FRIENDLY?
*Yes this is a previously posted article, but something I'm passionate about... but I did add pics.

The truth is, Gay friendly Costa Rica is not really friendly at all. It’s CONVENIENT, politically correct… and maybe even nice to your face, but when it comes right down to it- gay friendly Costa Rica will call you a behind your back in a second. Your Costa Rican hotel telling me you’re ‘gay friendly’ does not give me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, ACTUALLY, I take it as a slight- gay friendly should be a ‘given’, ANYWHERE/ANYTIME, it shouldn’t have to be announced and except for some ‘gay’ places wanting to let you know what you’re getting into- you wouldn’t see ‘straight friendly’ or ‘black friendly’ or ‘Jewish friendly’ or ‘brown hair friendly’… because it’s OFFENSIVE How do we not know this?

I guess we all have our pet peeves and mine is the ‘gay friendly’ moniker hotels like to advertise with, and the hotels in Costa Rica are no exception. But let’s be honest, gay friendly is a ‘MARKETING thing’, no more and no less. It’s like saying eco-friendly or calling your organization ‘green’. It sounds good when you say it and it looks good on paper, but those are merely catch phrases used by many Costa Rican hotels realizing the need to come across a certain way to the tourist who thinks they’re making a difference by staying in a place that advertises as ‘eco friendly’. I guess that’s the reason 95% of the sewage in Costa Rica finds its way into the rivers, streams and oceans around the country- nothing says eco-friendly more than human excrement. And promoting gay friendly just means you’re me OVER using lube- but you’re still fucking me…. and calling it intercourse…. but I’ll admit, it does feel kinda good.

Labeling a hotel Gay friendly is a slap in the face to gays everywhere and I can’t believe (we’ve) fallen for it- it’s as if we’re so tired of being treated as second-class citizens, we got thrown a bone and we’re just happy to have anything with the word ‘gay’ attached to it-

I’ve ALWAYS been pissed about this, but I remembered how pissed, when doing some research for the ‘gay’ section of our Costa Rica Travel Guide. An upscale hotel in Manuel Antonio, ‘Si Como No’ tosses around the ‘gay friendly’ moniker,,, but get this, also the ‘family friendly’ moniker…. does anyone else see the in putting ‘gay friendly’ side by side with ‘family friendly’, it’s almost an oxymoron. I can see it now, D’Angelo and myself walking around the grounds at Si Como No, holding hands, kissing, while the kids from Omaha toss around the Frisbee. Ideally, YES. Realistically, NO. And that’s just kissing, what about a few gay couples frolicking in the pool area at Si Como No, yeah right, gay friendly my right after watching a bunch of 'hairy-chested Daddy types' wrestling in the shallow end.

Gay friendly would be kicked to the curb as soon as a straight client complained. Because a HOTEL advertises ‘gay friendly’, does NOT mean the clients that stay there ARE. So the ‘gay friendly’ hotel is merely hoping you’ll keep your gayness confined to the bedroom. It means absolutely NOTHING; are we seriously that gay needy for acceptance? I find it embarrassing.

Give me a clothing optional pool, no kids, HOT staff, porno in the rooms with lube and condoms supplied on the nightstand Abercam La Fortuna comes to mind- I want a hotel who knows who the they are- ‘straight’ or ‘gay’. It’s impossible for a hotel to be ‘gay friendly’ ‘family friendly’ and ‘couples friendly’ all at the same time. If it doesn’t say something about ‘exclusively male’, ‘men only’, or ‘we cater to the gay community’, I don’t want anything to do with it…I’m sick of hotels riding the fence, playing all the angles… acting as if they ACCEPT gay, when in truth, it's ONLY MY money they're after- praying I don't act TOO gay in front of their ‘straight’ clientele- do you know what a gay reference review on TripAdvisor can do to a ‘straight’, family-oriented hotel?

"Si Como No was a very nice hotel, but you can imagine my surprise when the two guys in front of us kissed during the movie (Si Como No shows movies every night) and my son loudly said, 'EWHH, mommy, those guys were kissing!'”

So, friendly status. And double You for thinking I believe it. Hell, Don Rufino’s Restaurant in La Foruna will also say they’re gay friendly… yeah right, check this out: GAY Discrimination at Don Rufinos in La Fortuna Review 2

Gaia Hotel and Reserve- me and Marcello 'Chill'in' at the pool.
A couple weeks ago, Do’in GAY Costa Rica was Do’in Gay San José, which means making the rounds to the gay bars and clubs we frequent when we’re in town. And this time we had D’Angelo’s younger brother, Marcello and his boyfriend along, which made it even more FUN.

Anyway, I don’t know how it happened, why it happened, I just know it did. We were at Bochinche’s…

There was a particular guy there, Tico, totally my type, WAY cute, probably about 24, and as I often do, made it obvious I thought he was HOT (eyes and smiling type stuff... harmless). He returned the appreciation and appeared VERY interested. I don’t normally approach guys, and obviously he didn’t either, but we continued this behavior most of the night. D’Angelo thought he was “Okay”, but really, this guy just wasn’t ‘his type’, but Wentworth Miller DEFINITELY is.

Had a GREAT time at Bochinche’s…. as usual. We actually videotaped a REVIEW that should be up in the next week or so. Anyway,

We’d been back from San José a couple of days and I received an email from some guy that saw me at Bochinche’s, thought I was HOT and somehow found out my name and how to contact me: travelcostaricanow@gmail.com... hehe. I gotta say, we don’t sign autographs by any means, but we do get recognized from time to time from our video’s- I’m guessing this was one of those times. Anyway,, a few emails back and forth and come to find out, it’s the SAME and only guy I playing eye tag with in the first place. How LUCKY is that? Truth is STRANGER than fiction. Actually, I haven't asked him how he found out who I was yet.

It gets better.

We’ve been emailing for a few weeks now, I should note, he speaks and writes PERFECT English, actually, he teaches it in San José. He’s very nice, smart and after he sent me a couple pics… I was right, he’s way HOT. FYI- Sometimes when drinking, my idea of HOT can be a bit faulty, which I’ve learned the HARD way… another story for another time.

I wish I could show you his face, he’s SO cute, but I will show you this shot he sent me a couple days ago. Tell me that’s not WAY fuckable, even D'Angelo agreed. NICE!

Just so we're CLEAR, he's sticking out ass in this pic, and the camera is close... I can assure you, EVERYTHING is very proportionate and his ass is PERFECT.

Do'in GAY Costa Rica can hardly wait to get back to San Jose and DO this nice little ASS. I love my job.

...and if he happens to READ this blog, I will take this post down if he thinks he would be 'known' from his ... although I can think of MUCH worse things to be known for.

Go'in GAY at Gaia Hotel in Manuel Antonio

Gaia Hotel in Manuel Antonio- Where GAY goes to be GAY in Luxury.
Hey GUYS! If you read my other blog Do'in Costa Rica, you know I already talked about the Gaia Hotel and Reserve. BUT, what I didn't mention and what we don't mention in our VIDEO review of Gaia, is that it is EXTREMELY GAY FRIENDLY. I know, I know, I write constantly how I hate the term, 'gay friendly' especially as it relates to hotels, BUT, it applies to Gaia. Technically, Gaia Hotel and Reserve is an 'ADULT ONLY' hotel, which is what we said on our video, and it IS. But guess who owns Gaia Hotel,,, 4 gay guys. But they are also businessmen and not STUPID, so instead of trying to 'alienate' or 'draw' any particular group of people, they EMBRACE them ALL, so 'ADULT ONLY' works. Besides, I don't mind the term, 'Adult ONLY', I think it is a much better term than 'gay friendly' or 'straight friendly', and I think most people are smart enough to know what the term implies. One of the owners of Gaia was telling me that much of their clientele comes from Canada and Europe, which there, they could care less about 'gay' anyway, and when we were at Gaia that was surely the case... no one gave a fuck about our gayness, whether we were gay frolicking in the pool... or rubbing suntan lotion on each other.

So this post is an FYI to any fag interested in staying at an extremely luxurious hotel and being GAY about it,,, Gaia Hotel and Reserve would be a PERFECT option... just sayin.

Colours Oasis Resort- a talk with James

When we did this REVIEW of Colours Oasis Resort in San José, we didn’t know the owner, James Remes. Since then, I think it’s safe to say we’ve become friends. Not that it’s difficult; James is VERY personable and friendly and the hotel REFLECTS this fact in every nook and cranny. If you ONLY know James- you know Colours, if you ONLY know Colours- you know James. Plus, Colours Oasis is a fun place to stay, and I really like they’re a GAY hotel and none of this fence riding, ‘gay friendly’ bullshit. I like my gay hotels GAY, as opposed to places such as Hotel Kekoldi, which throws around ‘gay friendly’, ‘family friendly’ and ‘straight friendly’… depending on who they're talking to at the time...but I digress.

GAY Marriage- Shot DOwn in Costa Rica

Gay Civil Unions are STRUCK down by the courts in Costa Rica; frightened that if allowed, SUPER HEROES may want similar RIGHTS and kids everywhere will get the wrong impression.
Costa Rica’s constitutional court SHOT down any hopes for gays to marry or form civil unions… at least for NOW anyway. I’m sorry I didn’t post this earlier, it was reported May 29th. Here’s the article (the word ‘article’ being used VERY loosely) in A.M. Costa Rica:

The Sala IV constitutional court has rejected an appeal against a section of family law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. A lawyer filed the appeal, which, if accepted, would have opened the way to same-sex marriages. The appeal sought to change the family code phrase to say marriage is a union between ‘persons’.

Can you BLAME me? 3-fuckin sentences on an important cultural and moral issue in Costa Rica- but obviously not that important. First, if you read my other blog, Do’in Costa Rica, you know I have BIG problems with AM Costa Rica anyway, and this would be another example of WHY. And leave it to Jay Brodell, the Editor of ALL that is AM Costa Rica to place this story among these: ‘Afternoon lightning hit traffic signals pretty hard’, ‘Disgraced governor’s wife here to brave jungle’, ‘Budget request will pay for protection of victims’, ‘Anti-tuna fiesta generates letter to the president’, 'Same-sex marriages vetoed’, ‘New Heredia police station’. Seriously go check this out, EVERY story, with the exception of the new police station, YUP, even the one about the governor’s wife being on, ‘I’m a Celebrity- Get Me Out of Here’ and the ‘lightening strike’, were much BIGGER than the ‘Same-sex marriage vetoed’ story. It’s not even SUBTLE. It’s a SLIGHT and GAYS should be PISSED. I’ll get back to AM fuckinCosta Rica later.

It was LATE March when the courts said this:

"The Sala IV constitutional court has agreed to study an appeal that would legalize same-sex marriage in Costa Rica."

Total lip service which I’m pretty sure I predicted here: but WHATEVER. I think the courts are scared of the 3-inch HARD penis that IS the Roman Catholic Church. I think it was the smallest DICK of them all, Archbishop Hugo Barrantes, that said: “…. that Costa Ricans will at least vote rejecting gay marriages, even if the lawmakers are not aware of its dangerous and perverse effect on our society.”

LEFT- Dressed UP. RIGHT- Naked. After all, it's all about PRESENTATION.
The Archbishop must be quite pleased that the courts WERE aware of the dangerous and perverse effects of butt-fucking… or maybe he’s just relieved he didn’t have to EXPOSE and flex his 3-inches of dogma. I know I would be.

Okay, fine, COOL, not like this was a SURPRISE... and let’s be honest, if this would have made it past the courts,,, the church would have circled the wagons, and GAY would be DEFEATED. Costa Rica is just not ready…

Fuck that. Gay tico’s need to stEP-UP. A gay protest in front of the Gran Hotel Costa Rica is all well and good, GREAT, I was there,,, WAY COOL. You want more than 3 fuckin sentences- start protesting in front of the CHURCHES (civilly of course)… HELL, AM Costa Rica and THE LIKE, should be held accountable for their deplorable lack of GAY mention in relevant news stories…. And believe me people, the 3-fuckin sentences in AM Costa Rica was on PURPOSE. Protest in front of Jay Brodell's house.

The courts won’t do shit unless GAY Tico’s get off their ASSes and get themselves counted and more importantly, HEARD. GAY Costa Rica needs a vocal FACE… and badly. Until then, expect nothing BETTER than 3 fuckin sentences in the likes of AM Costa Rica and 3-inches of Roman Catholic cock, constantly waved in your faces as a reminder of their influence in Costa Rica... GAY Tico's should expect MORE. Let's SHOOT for 3 paragraphs and 7-inches... at least with 7, GAY may consider a hook-up... merely for conversation of course.

'The Roman Catholic Church in Costa Rica believes GAY Marriage threatens the very essence of Pura Vida... also stating these FAGGY FROGS must be STOPPED before straight frogs EVERYWHERE think they have options'.
Okay, so I was wrong. The Roman Catholic Church isn’t ‘masking anything’ in regards to their views on the country’s consideration of same-sex marriage laws (okay, civil unions, whatever). I apologize. The Church sees the potential ruling on laws concerning same-sex marriage, and really anything GAY as a personal attack on the very essence of Pura Vida- and Pura Vida needs protection. Think of the Roman Catholic Church in Costa Rica as a giant condom and the GAY population as the raging hard-on that’s about to EXPLODE... to the condoms chagrin.

Hey Roman Catholic Church, you might want to 'double wrap' that, because we’re cummin again and AGAIN.

Anyway, this is the latest:

'The Catholic Church in Costa Rica has launched a signature campaign to solicit a national referendum against same-sex civil marriages. Archbishop Hugo Barrantes of San Jose (seen here a few years back in his BEST sheep-herding ATTIRE) says it is a campaign organized by a group of faithful who defend life, the Church's principles, and marriage and is not directly affiliated with the Bishops. The campaign hopes that Costa Ricans will at least vote rejecting gay marriages, even if the lawmakers are not aware of its dangerous and perverse effect on our society, the Prelate said in referring to the attempt to legalize same-sex unions.'

*I kind of took the liberty to add the 'sheep herding' comment.

First off, I do think they’ll get their signatures. I’d be VERY surprised if they didn’t. Costa Rican Catholics are the SHEEP of country… I’m not sure if it’s because they were young when it happened or the fact the CHURCH only has a 3 inch (hard), but for whatever reason, Catholics barely let out a, “Baaaaa”, when they first got so many years ago. Furthermore, Catholics wouldn’t actually READ the referendum anyway… sheep don’t READ, they follow and get from time to time by the shepherd, in this case, Archbishop Hugo Barrantes. It should be noted, luckily for the sheep they barely know they’re getting I think GOD knew EXACTLY what he was doing when he short changed the Catholic Church by appointing them with such a short STAFF. Although it does make one wonder how they ever felt comfortable being a ‘TOP’ in the first place… I mean come on; 3 inches HARD.

Sheep need to know there are SO many other -options out there. If they did, they’d realize how funny 3 inches of cock actually is and the CHURCH would have to learn HOW to give a decent… or they’d be out of the sheep-herding business in no time.
At first, I was MAD. But this is laughable and the Roman Catholic Church is laughable (beginning with the 3-inch penis). These battles don’t really mean MUCH, except they’re the natural form of progression for the RIGHTS we’ll eventually have. GAY will be an accepted form of in the near future... REGARDLESS. The writing in on the WALL and nothing will STOP it. There’s too many of us (even in Costa Rica) and each day we’re getting more and more EDUCATED, SELF-CONFIDENT, VOCAL and PROUD of who we are, and soon, we’ll let NO ONE tell us who we can LOVE, or spend our lives with. Pura Vida .

As for the Roman Catholic Church, soon, they’ll be forever apologizing like the bus driver who said, “All to the BACK of the bus.”

But I’ll sit in the BACK of the bus for a moment.

GAY MAN vs. the Roman Catholic Church

It appears the Roman Catholic Church in Costa Rica is at it AGAIN. The church is rightly accused of rallying its church members against a bill that would give legal recognition and rights to same-sex unions. Wow, sounds like they ripped a page from the strategy used in California for passing Prop 8.

WARNING! Not ONLY am I a PROUD who has no problem admitting a fondness for (especially if they're attached to an Asian), but I'm also a Richard Dawkins Atheist- a lethal combination to you God fearing types. So this would be a GREAT time to hit the back button. I will show no mercy.

LAST CHANCE............ Okay, I tried to WARN you.

The Roman Catholic Church, defender of the Universe and all that is RIGHT is at it again, preparing to do battle with it's increasing powerful arch nemesis, GAY Man.

"Holy discrimination GAY Man, the church thinks you're a second class citizen who doesn't 'deserve' the RIGHTS many in Costa Rica take for granted."

"How right you are my little friend."

But to RALLY the troops, this discrimination against GAY Man is masked under the hospices of merely trying to preserve the sanctity of marriage and family- so predictable.

For me, GAY Man and his little friend I assume, the church means NOTHING. And speaking for myself, I can easily say, I know the church has NO power to make me feel guilty or ashamed of who I am (well actually when I was younger they did, eventually I found the courage to break the hold) and furthermore, I'll rot in HELL before the church could ever convince me that the fact I SUCK dick, get fucked by or engage in any other mutual male on male sexual behavior is somehow immoral, bad or a SIN. Sex is great. Nothing says I love you more than the intimacy of a sexual act. I'm sorry you find sex disgusting and a 'chore'. I don't. And sometimes, May I rot in hell.

THINK- it's humans who created the connection between SEX and DIRTY, and who did that you ask... RELIGION. ALL, yeah I said it, ALL negative beliefs in regards to homosexuality are rooted in religion.

Oh, and for the record. It just so happens I've always been gay, but I don't care what makes gay GAY and you shouldn't either, so don't throw out this 'choice' bullshit, because the bottom line is, it doesn't matter. It is what it is, there's really no need to study it, dissect it or find reasons to approve or disapprove of it- just accept it. And anyway, I'm pretty sure 'straight' didn't get this much scrutiny.

Back to Roman Catholics.

But that's not why I hate you. I HATE you for your ABUSE of power. I HATE you because many of my young gay Tico friends feel ashamed of who they are and guilty for what they think about. I HATE you because they live a LIFE of fear- fear of losing friends and family, fear of losing their jobs, fear of being exposed as, "that PLAYO". I HATE that they believe you and your archaic teachings (even I can't convince them otherwise) I HATE that their families believe you. I HATE you because you're supposed to teach compassion, tolerance and love with a non-judgmental attitude, but instead, espouse your 'HATE the sin, love the sinner' , which asserts and suggests a premise that 'gay' is immoral or bad, "But we still LOVE you." I HATE you because you take advantage of a confused gay person who is having difficulty standing up for themselves and the worst part, you engrained the DOUBT and insecurity, in the FIRST PLACE, from day ONE. I HATE you because my gay tico friends are depressed, sometimes SUICIDAL, and all because you taught them, YOU and YOU alone have the monopoly on morality. I hate you because you put a stranglehold on the country and many feel helpless to break it. Are you your brothers keeper, or are you just trying to keep your brother?

But I got NEWS for you Roman Catholic bitches. Almost 7 billion people inhabit this planet- at LEAST 600 million (wrap your narrow-minded head around that figure) are gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, lesbian or whatever.... 600 million, seriously, think about it. Unfortunately, many still live in a country such as Costa Rica and are scared to come OUT of the closet. But mark my words, you may continue to WIN a few battles, but we will WIN the WAR- in 50 years, you'll be known as the who had the 'tools' to know better, but didn't. There is literally no excuse for your stupidity, GAY is all around you- hell, if your GOD did exist, he'd be embarrassed by your narrow-minded view of the WORLD :( And really, I probably know more 'Bible' than you- the Bible, and Jesus for that matter taught 2 main principles when he spoke to the masses- treat people as you want to be treated (it's a shame we needed a RULE for that one) and NOT to judge others- as you should be too BUSY working on yourself. I have a tip- why don't you actually read the Bible instead of letting people tell you what it says. I did, that's why even if YOUR God was the TRUE GOD, I still wouldn't follow him, because as Richard Dawkins correctly points out:

'The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, blookthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.'

Really, I don't hate you- I HATE the word 'HATE'. Your ignorance, intolerance and the FACT people actually BELIEVE your shit, saddens me, that's all. I guess I HATE the sin LOVE the sinner so they say. And truly, I don't think it matters anyway, your influence and control over people in general is fading... and quickly. With information and 'other ways of thinking' only 1-click away, your time is JUST about up. C'ya. :)

And to my gay tico friends, REMEMBER- the Church doesn't SPEAK for God and they surely don't SPEAK for YOU, and with that, I proudly give you this:

Don't SUPPORT GAY because you necessarily agree, SUPPORT GAY because anything LESS would be uncivilized.

a BARGAIN on GAY- 3 for 1

Gay Boys in Costa Rica: "How much for that one ?"
I never said one thing to lead him to believe I would do it. Hell, I introduced ‘him’ as mine and D’Angelo’s ‘friend’… albeit a friend who frequently travels with us, but a 'just' friend none the less. I didn’t say anything about him being our ‘special friend’, or ‘friend with benefits’… nothing.

… although on self-reflection I can see how it could be misinterpreted , especially in the GAY world that IS Costa Rica; where prostitution is legal, gay boys fight for your affections (and your money) and ‘gay for pay’ is a common practice. INFO on Gay Clubs and Bars in Costa Rica.

I liked the guy, still do, and after all he was a little on the BUZZED side, as was I. He was my age, intelligent and a kick to talk with. But to my thinking, it took a lot of BALLS to think I would (or could) trade Christopher for 2 ‘boys’ he had brought with him. Did I say brought, I meant to say ‘bought’.

I distinctly remember- we were sitting at the bar in Colours Oasis Resort in San José, I was drinking a Bavaria Dark and he a vodka tonic. There were about 10 of us chit-chatting and drinking a few cocktails around the bar. He leaned over and told me how cute he thought Christopher was.. I concurred.

He went from thinking he was cute, to, “I’ll trade you two of my guys for Christopher?”

I should mention, I had the MAJOR HOTS for one of ‘his’ guys, totally my type and totally a HOTTIE (that’s a whole other story)

It would have been funny if it wasn’t for the fact he was totally SERIOUS.

Actually, at first, I did chuckle, until I realized he was serious. Then I told him Christopher is our friend, we don’t own him, he isn’t ‘ours’ to trade- you want to ‘get’ with Christopher, then try it the ‘ol fashion way- buy him a drink and talk to him, he’s right next to you... geez.

Needless to say, he didn’t believe me. He thought I was playing hardball or something.

So he leans over and says, “Okay, 3 guys for Christopher.”

I merely started laughing and told him I was NOT a pimp and Christopher was NOT a prostitute or Boy Toy or whatever, and I really had no say in the matter. But again, give it a shot if you’re interested. Funny, he NEVER really believed I didn’t have any influence over who Christopher ‘got’ with.

He brought it up a couple more times in the course of the 2 days we were all there together, but NOTHING involving a TRADE ever took place… I’ve got my issues, but I also have a few principles left.

Because I have NO DOUBT, Christopher is/was worth at least 4 guys... anything less would have just been ‘WRONG’, like I said, I have my principles.

GAY Protest- Gran Hotel Costa Rica DISCRIMINATES

ANNOUNCEMENT: "Calling ALL GAYS, friends of gays, bisexuals, trisexuals, trannies, lesbians, fag hags, gay supporters and anyone else that understands the importance of EQUAL RIGHTS for ALL- there’s a GAY Protest happening in San José outside the National Theatre and the entrance to the Grand Hotel Costa Rica, and we need all the support we can get. Two lesbians got harassed by Grand Hotel Security Staff and were discriminated against for kissing- KISSING for god sake... and not even making OUT kissing." WTF?

Yeah, this GAY behavior needs to be STOPPED... how repulsive.
I wasn’t exactly skeptical; I just didn’t know what to expect- a handful of protesters- hundreds-thousands? Really I had no idea. I had heard about the protest the day before we were leaving to San José to do some videotaping and whatnot for our sites and I thought it could be interesting so of course we had to check it out. Here’s the original post about a month ago: Do'in GAY Costa Rica will be Do'in GAY San José.

We, (D’Angelo, Christopher and myself) were already in the city so we moseyed on over to the National Theatre about 5’oclock, an hour before the protest was to begin and sat around and tried to spot the other fags that were waiting like we were. Gaydar was going off, but not overly so.

Five turned into 5:30, turned into 5:45 and we were starting to worry. Our Gaydars’ were beeping, but still, only sporadically. I remember thinking, it’s hard to have a gay protest without any gays around… yeah I know, I have deep thoughts. Six o’clock right on the button… ummmm, not good. I counted maybe 20 gay people about, standing around, sitting on park benches, eating fast food, feeding the pigeons, a regular day in the Square- a casual observer would have never guessed a bunch of seemingly passive gays were anxiously waiting to be led into a 'Massive Gay Tizzy Fit' directed towards the Grand Hotel Costa Rica.

What was I thinking? Nothing happens until ‘GAY’ arrives and this being the land of Tico time and Pura Vida- really, was their ever a doubt the gays in charge would make a ‘Grand’ entrance into their own protest. Hell, where do you think ‘fashionably late’ came from… (Oscar Wilde by the way). Here's our VIDEO of the PROTEST outside the Grand Hotel Costa Rica:

It was great seeing such a good turn-out of young gay tico’s, after all, gay rights start with ‘PRIDE’. The other side of the coin was our boy Christopher. He wanted NOTHING to do with the protest. Not because he didn’t care or support the cause, but he didn’t want to be recognized, so he sat on the other side of the square, somewhat in the shadows, not even facing the protest. Sad, but for MANY that’s the way it is here, after all, who’s going to pay for Christopher’s school if his dad sees him on television? Many Tico’s get disowned by friends, family and church for being gay here, so unfortunately, the ‘closet’ is frequently their home.

This PROTEST gave me great HOPE for the FUTURE of GAYS in Costa Rica.

*I must confess, totally made up the 'Oscar Wilde thing', it just seemed like something he would have quipped.

Couchsurfing has its PERKS

'Couchsurfing is definitely NOT about SEX... but THINGS happen'..
I love living in La Fortuna Costa Rica and I love Couchsurfing, and I especially LOVE when the 2 are combined in a GOOD way. Any questions you may have about Couchsurfing you can probably find in my original, more 'appropriate' post: Couchsurfing in La Fortuna. I’m not covering Couchsurfing here, this is more of a sexual couchsurfing post... hehe. *I don’t speak for, or represent the folks at Couchsurfing.com, and I’m positive they don’t endorse my behavior either, but keep in mind, we’re all adults here.

We’ll call this post, the Perks of Couchsurfing and living in La Fortuna Costa Rica.

in a small space no doubt, but us being gay and him being gay there’s always ‘THAT’ chance that GAY just might HOOK-UP. Believe me, we don't need much of a reason- gays enough.

We liked him. He was cool and fun to hang around with so we took it upon ourselves to show him around La Fortuna. He seemed to like us as well.

First stop, the water hole where all the locals go to swim, we have videos about it- way cool place. He enjoyed himself. He wanted to change into dry clothes proceeded to get naked not 10 ft. from where we were standing… and of course I made a ‘ comment… but believe me, he knew what he was doing and I swear it took him 5 minutes to get his pants up and shoes tied. Watching him bent over he provided me a whole new visual to, ‘assume the position’. He really did have a great , the kind of ass if you’re NOT a bottom, would be a total WASTE of perfectly Luckily, he was as god intended- 100% BOTTOM.

That night was uneventful, although our conversations over drinks and throughout the day were both fun and very entertaining- I knew he liked us and we him. We made up his couch (futon), and went to bed. I was thinking I should have been more assertive, I was positive he would have done ‘something’ with us if only I’d been a little more aggressive….

He went on a couple adventure tours the next day and we caught up with him for dinner. Of course drinks were involved, we all got BUZZED but not overly so. We got back to the apartment and turned on a movie, which basically became the ambiance as we opted to chat instead. Come to find out, he hadn’t had a boyfriend for quite some time and hadn’t had sex in a couple of months (WOW!). He sat between us. Knees were touching, hands were accidentally brushing against body parts and next thing I know, we’re all kissing.

The futon didn’t get made up that night, or the next for that matter… and he missed all the activities he had scheduled for the next day. If it wasn’t for HUNGER and the need to re-fuel; we may not have left the bed, and I was totally right about his having a perfectly …. life is GOOD. I believed him about not having SEX in a couple months, because he was obviously trying to increase his 'monthly averages' all in one night.… another reason to hook-up with a YOUNG 21-year old, gay couchsurfer.

I love La Fortuna and I love Couchsurfing. I highly recommend BOTH. Especially if they have a perfectly

Bochinche Lounge & Bar REVISITED San Jose

Bochinche THEN: they were HOT! - Bochinche NOW: Personality HELPS.
Bochinche Gay Bar and Lounge is just up the street from Pucho’s, both located in a somewhat sketchier part of San José. But don’t let that STOP you, as we would always recommend using taxi cabs (see taxi video) to do your night time activities in the San José area anyway, regardless of your rental car status. INFO on Gay Clubs and Bars in Costa Rica.

I should say Bochinche’s WAS always my favorite gay club of the ‘Big 4’ clubs that have been at the core of San José’s gay nightlife for some time- the Big 4 being: La Avispa, Club Oh, Pucho’s and Bochinche’s. Here’s my original post and REVIEW of Bochinche’s: Gay Costa Rica- Bochinche's Nightclub Review.

Unfortunately, Bochinche’s is no longer my FAVE. (But I still hold out HOPE.)

Anything I’m about to say, shouldn’t be taken as a NEGATIVE per se, it’s only a BUZZ kill to me.

Is it my imagination or is Bochinche’s getting EVEN smaller? The dance floor seems to have disappeared, swallowed whole by the stage. I guess the SHOWS are a large part of the reason people go to Bochinche’s NOW. I preferred the dancing, PARTYING Bochinche’s personally.

And is the crowd getting slightly older? Before, the guys in Bochinche’s were mostly Young, HOT, LIVELY, fun... you know- twink like, and the atmosphere was MUCH more party-like and FESTIVE. I am not saying OLDer is a bad thing, HELL, I'd chat up Big GAY AL and have a good time... and he's a cartoon character, so don’t go there, I’m just saying the younger guys brought a little more SPIRIT to the place that’s all.

‘Lounge’ seems to be the appropriate moniker here, they still have the video screens, the music is good, but I always thought of Bochinche’s more ‘club like’ than ‘lounge like’. Now to me, Bochinche’s is the place you’d meet up with friends and have a few drinks, catch a part of the show… then move on to a BIGGER and BETTER party- kind of like foreplay. Nothin wrong with steamy foreplay... and it's not as if they're faking it.

I mentioned it, but for anyone whose never been there, Bochinche’s is SMALL, and the complaint echoed by many is when it’s crowded it’s impossible to move around, and if you’re claustrophobic- FORGET about it. I know people who don’t go THERE for the sole reason of its lack of space to MOVE. I also believe I mentioned this in a previous Bochinche post, but if there were EVER a fire….. many FLAMERS would go up in flames… or smoke, whatever the case may BE.

Did we have fun at Bochinche’s? YUP we did, although I have fun most anywhere I go. Besides, drinking has a way of making any occasion a potentially good one… hehe. Can you hook-up at Bochinche’s- YUP, also no problem, I got cocktail napkins and ‘Roberto’ to prove it... hehe. And the Drag show was GOOD, staff was also NICE, even though they had to remind me about 50 times to stop holding my beer over the EDGE of the railing.

It’s impossible for us to hit every night at any given gay club and we were told Thursday’s were good at Bochinche… and it was fun, but the SWEET VIBE of the past just wasn’t the same on this night.

You may WISH you could do this at Bochinche's
If the owners of Bochinche would like to invite us OUT to their BEST night and prove it can still be a happening PLACE with the Dance-Party atmosphere I so fondly remember… then COOL. If NOT, I’m saying Bochinche likes its ‘lounge’ and ‘come for the show’ STATUS. So yeah, check out Bochinche, have a couple cocktails, shake your ass where you stand, catch a little of the show and make sure you head to the bathroom about 10-minutes before you actually have to GO…. then move ON, because the night we were there- they did JUST that. But the foreplay was NICE and it's not like I don't mind fuckin' around with an 'ol friend- think of Bochinche's as a never-ending FLUFFER.

Hotel Kekoldi San Jose

The sign out front says Hotel Kekoldi, on the net it can be found under, ‘Kekoldi Hotel San José’ and ‘Hotel Kekoldi San José’, but it’s only somewhat confusing because there’s also a Kekoldi in Granada Nicaragua, obviously owned by the same person and they also share a common website, so when you click around make SURE you’re reading the right REVIEW for the right Kekoldi hotel.

This REVIEW is for the Hotel Kekoldi in San José Costa Rica and take my word, there's a distinction between the two.

We’ll call HIM, yeah, the guy to the right with the nice ASS and hoody... we'll call him Hotel Kekoldi>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hotel Kekoldi. Looks nice huh? Looks like Kekoldi has been working out, and the potential is right under the HOOD… looks like it could be the real DEAL, this Kekoldi.

From the outside, Kekoldi is NICE, cool structure, decorated just so, very pleasant- Inviting even.

Entering Hotel Kekoldi isn’t quite so EASY. Kekoldi needs to recognize you- you just don’t ENTER… we needed ID’s and although he apologized later, he was rather gruff in asking for them. Maybe Kekoldi doubles as a bouncer.

Seriously, Kekoldi takes PRECAUTIONS, but you don’t have to actually wear a condom to ENTER, although it may be easier to penetrate Kekoldi wearing one. Oh, and when you decide to pack it up and 'pull out' of Kekoldi, he’ll need to BUZZ you OUT to do that also. No matter how many times you come and go into Kekoldi (you almost feel guilty, especially if you come and go a LOT), it forces Kekoldi to get up frequently, and at night Kekoldi tends to get tired, so it may take him awhile to get aroused. Actually this can happen in the daytime as well- I guess lots of people coming and going into Kekoldi wear him OUT a bit. Buzzing the gate is great for Kekoldi’s protection, but standing around waiting is a total BUZZ kill. Protection has its disadvantages.

Kekoldi is nice, says all the right things. Again, shows potential. Once inside the inner sanctuary of Kekoldi, he’s pretty roomy, space to move around and the accommodations in Kekoldi do come in various sizes, so he can house more people if need be.

I suspect the major draw of Kekoldi, besides his VERY nice exterior, is his LOCATION. There is no doubt Kekoldi is conveniently located to just about anything you want to do in San José. But remember, although conveniently located, Kekoldi is all about SECURITY, there’s a reason for this and it’s not because it’s in the safest part of TOWN. Don’t EVER find yourself on the WRONG side of the BUZZER at Kekoldi at 3:00 in the morning, like I said, Kekoldi can often be difficult to arouse. INFO on Gay Clubs and Bars in Costa Rica.

As you can see, Kekoldi isn’t much for superfluous decorations. Where you’ll be located inside Kekoldi, the walls are barren and white, but CLEAN. In our area of Kekoldi, he seemed to be having plumbing issues, way HOT, but more gushy/drippy than an actual SPRAY… normally I wouldn’t complain about gushy.
Kekoldi serves up breakfast with all the regulars; fruits, toast, juice, coffee and even eggs… NICE.

Kekoldi isn’t totally GAY, he lets anyone ENTER, including KIDS and families…ewh! Let's just say for me, if you're going to be FRIENDLY- I'd prefer DOGS - leave the kids at home. I’m not a big fan of fence RIDERS, as this is ALWAYS an indication of caring mostly about the MONEY ...not sayin that’s necessarily a bad thing… just sayin. I'll leave it at that, read the previous articles for more thoughts on this matter if you're so inclined. With or without families, Kekoldi CAN be NOISY. Sometimes inside Kekoldi, sometimes out- if it isn't NOISY, consider yourself LUCKY.

Here’s WHY- Kekoldi is doable and I might even do’em twice, but Kekoldi has no real SOUL, no PERSONALITY, no ATMOSPHERE, no AMBIANCE, no HEART, and you get the feeling he doesn’t really give a FUCK- he knows he has a nice ass and he’ll let you enter, might even like it a little, but by his ACTIONS he doesn’t seem to care if you come or go, or even if you STAY for that matter, fake moaning might HELP. It should be noted, Kekoldi is NOT mean- he just has the personality of a cardboard box… a cardboard box with a nice ass. So, unless the box develops some personality of sorts, I’d do’em maybe twice, but only to USE him for his location and decent breakfast.

But you backpackers, people who just want to hang-out in San José all day, party at night and CRASH inside Kekoldi, then he’s definitely your man, but if you like conversation with your SEX, then I would consider places like Colours Oasis- at Colours, their ASS may not be a perfect 10, but their personality IS……………. and that’s HOT. GAY Costa Rica- Nude Beaches

Nude beaches in Costa Rica do not technically exist, ditto for clothing optional beaches since public nudity is against the law in Costa Rica.
But one of the GREAT things about Costa Rica, just because there are LAWS, doesn’t mean they’re actually enforced.

The TRUTH is there are a few places in Costa Rica where people tend to go topless, like Playa Grande about 30 minutes north of Montezuma, and of course one can’t mention NUDE BEACH without mentioning Manuel Antonio’s La Playita, where gay men 'HAD' been getting butt-ass naked for years… that is until Arenas Del Mar, a high-end HOTEL, decided to build extremely close (many say illegally) to all those butt-ass naked GAY men. Arenas Del Mar was NOT amused by gay dick and ass - can you imagine? Enter the Costa Rica police. Now when you decide to get naked at La Playita in Manuel Antonio, you do so at your own Risk. Me, searchin for the BEST place to get BUTT-ASS NAKED.

Since I live here, I know a few things. First, there are a few ‘secret’ gay NUDE beaches around the country, one being in Jacó, but honestly, you’re on your own; the secret is SAFE with me. Visit Jacó yourself, ask around, maybe I’ll see you there.

The Truth is, there’s about 750 miles of coastline in Costa Rica- seclusion happens about anyplace you lay your towel. Getting naked on a beach in Costa Rica is NOT difficult, unless of course you’re an exhibitionist type and were thinking you could get naked smack in the middle of a popular beach destination such as Tamarindo.
Nudity should be treated the same as if you want to use a little recreational Drugs while in Costa Rica: discretion, Discretion, DISCRETION.

After visiting San José, we were invited to Samara for a few days. We hadn’t been there and jumped at the chance. Our friend Christopher was with us. The weather was beautiful… even more so than you’re visualizing. (I really like Samara). We three decided to work on our tan lines, so off we went. Next to Samara is Playa Carrillo with a rocky point separating the two areas (from the sky it would look like the letter 'w'). We found a secluded spot and were naked enjoying the sun in less the 5 minutes. One beer in, and thinking LIFE couldn’t get much better, who do we spot- two policemen making their way towards us. What to do? Fuck it… it was only us, so we decided to do nothing and let ‘them’ make the first move. One circled in back of us, the other approached…he was kinda cute actually.

A short story shorter: “If others happen upon the area, please put your clothes back on… and be CAREFUL, someone might want to grab THAT...” he said as he smiled and motioned to D’Angelo’s… ummm… package.

WTF?

For a SECOND, I actually thought this was a fantasy about to come TRUE. Cute man in uniform, showing interest… double ummmmmm. "Are there cameras rolling close by, this has the makings of a GREAT porno."

It was not to be. They strolled off and we enjoyed a great afternoon.

As for me, right now, I have NO tan lines. I love Costa Rica and I love a Costa Rican cop in uniform who can show some discretion... but the whole FANTASY thing would have been NICE- I'm thinkin it just may have happened if his 'partner' wasn't around... fuckin dykes... hehe.

La Avispa- Gay Nightclub San Jose REVIEW

La Avispa, bringing GAY to EVERYONE on Sunday Nights.
La Avispa in San José is a GREAT example of why many in the straight crowd LOVE to frequent gay bars and night clubs... and it's NOT because we don't know how to PARTY... and believe me, La Avispa KNOWS how to throw a Sunday night PARTY. The older sister of the gay night clubs in San Jose, La Avispa has not lost a 'thing' with AGE, in fact, she's become more experienced in bringing EVERYONE together.

It's a BEAUTIFUL thing when it WORKS.
La Avispa, which means, ‘the wasp’ in English, has been at the CORE of the San José gay scene since the late ‘70’s, and if you were there last Sunday night (April 5 2009) as we were, it wouldn’t be hard to understand why. La Avispa is the SHIT.

We’ve been to La Avispa numerous times in the past and we’ve always had fun, but this past Sunday night, something was just in the ‘gay’ air or something. So, as of NOW, I’ve officially moved Avispa to the top of my best ‘gay night clubs in San José’ list… I WAS a huge Bochinche’s fan (I still hold out hope) and even a Pucho’s supporter (Pucho's until recently... and here's why), but La Avispa has moved past the majority of the competition in my book with its Sunday Night Party. And you Club Oh! fans, I love that place too, HELLOOO... what's NOT to like? But being from Las Vegas, to me, Club Oh is just any one of a hundred modern gay dance clubs you’d find in almost any city around the WORLD (nothing wrong with that... just sayin). Nowadays, places like Club Oh are more the rule than the exception, which is exactly why I appreciated the old Pucho’s.... it may have been nastier and raunchier than MOST gay clubs, but damn, it had character and I love partying with the 'exception'...... but I digress.

San Jose's Club Oh, like Krave in Las Vegas- how could you possibly be disappointed?

La Avispa was BUMPIN last Sunday Night. Gays and lesbians, OLD and young fags and even the Straight straights were there- EVERYBODY was represented and ALL enjoying themselves, yes, even the Straight straights. The amount of straight people there was TRULY nice to see, (I spent about 45 minutes talking to about 30 of them from Canada) some just wanting to dance the night away, others intrigued by their GAY surroundings... but hey, whatever gets them educated. Also a BIG PLUS in my book is you can actually converse in some parts of the massive structure (particularly upstairs), without yelling and if you’re looking to hook-up, you can DEFINITELY do that as well- another story for another time. But at La Avispa, it seems more about getting together and the 'party' itself, as opposed to hooking up. The sound system was flawless and as for the the music- a perfect mix of BEATS, finally a DJ who knows how to manage, and even a better than average lighting system provided a chance at decent video footage (see below)- Everything was CLICK'in.

It just may be the mix of the crowd that makes La Avispa work, but whatever the combination, it's working.

Whether you’re a gay traveler to Costa Rica, a gay local, a straight person looking for a GREAT atmosphere (you know us gays, we ALWAYS provide the atmosphere) with top notch music and reasonably priced drinks- you’d be making a mistake if you made any other plans for your Sunday night’s activities. And by the way, on Sunday, the party at Avispa starts EARLY, like 6:00pm, so you can get your GROOVE on early… and for those of you who don’t have to work, they still stay open late.

Colours Oasis Resort San Jose Costa Rica

Colours Oasis Resort in San Jose attracts both Gay and Straight alike.
It’s called the Colours Oasis Resort- Colours spelled with a ‘u’. The Colours Oasis Resort is located a short cab ride away from the center of San José Costa Rica in the Rohrmoser neighborhood. Colours is not only a ‘gay’ resort, but interestingly enough, ‘straight’ people also love to STAY there… and you’ll understand why after this review. And also by the time this is over, you’ll probably think we’re part owners, I can assure you- we’re not… unfortunately for us. Don't want to READ this REVIEW, the VIDEO is at the bottom.

The Colours Oasis Resort began back in 1990 (imagine building a gay hotel 19 years ago in Costa Rica- the SHIT they must have took for that) by James Remes who had also owned Colours in Key West, Florida (for 5 yrs) before moving it here to San José. He’s been adding, redecorating and reinventing Colours every 5 years or so to keep it FRESH and updated- and it’s definitely WORKING. Honesty, he wears me OUT with all he’s doing.

The fact is- if you’re gay, you’d be making a HUGE mistake if you didn’t spend at least 2 nights at Colours. I would even go so far as to say to the ‘cooler’ straight people- you’d be making a mistake as well, and should stay at Colours Oasis for the exact same reason many of you like to frequent GAY Night Clubs- they’re just more FUN. After all, it’s all about atmosphere, and Colours Oasis has atmosphere in RAINBOWS……ok, maybe it’s not that faggy, but you get my point.

Here are some of the specifics:

The staff is GREAT, and cute, HELLOO…. Roberto and ED…hehe. They’re also helpful, informative and if you need something, ANYTHING- they will try and make it happen. The ambiance and atmosphere at Colours is, in my opinion is the MAJOR draw…great little bar section to have a few cocktails and converse with staff or the other clients staying there… and I’m not sure Colours would call it a Happy Hour or not, but it sure did feel like one- music, smiles, conversations and ALL with a few frosty beverages in hand. There are even a few exotic birds next to the garden patio area that if I didn't know better, I'd say they were gay as well. Colours wants to BRING people together, so the place is laid out with many sitting and lounging areas to do just that, hence ATMOSPHERE.

They got everything you would expect- pool, secluded Jacuzzi, a small exercise room, WIFI, a terraced sundeck to do a little sun-bathing, a great complimentary breakfast that includes bacon…. now that’s what I’m talking about. There are a wide range of rooms, accommodating a single traveler or larger groups and prices to fit not only the budget traveler, but the more upscale traveler as well……….. and every budget in between. There are restaurants and bars located conveniently in close proximity to Colours Oasis, from local hangouts to more upscale eateries, but you’re only about a 6 buck cab ride to the middle of San José- so it’s convenient. I gotta admit, at first we thought we wouldn’t be ‘close’ to the attractions we wanted to visit in and around the San José area, but it was never a problem, we were even able to catch a bus into the city (the bus stop is only a minute walk from the resort) for about 75 cents.

So, gay or straight, we highly recommend a stay at the Colours Oasis Resort, you won’t be disappointed. I know we can’t be wrong, during our stay, we met no less than 8 other guests who at stayed at Colours numerous times before in their previous travels to the San José area. Colours appears to have a VERY loyal following… obviously for good REASON.

Oh, and if you get a chance to meet James, he not only has some great stories about his last 19 years living and working GAY in Costa Rica but a WEALTH of insight and Info about Costa Rica in general…that is if you can pin him down.

Rumor has it, there could be ONE massive GAY party coming to Colours in the near future, something about celebrating the 25th year of Colours… Stay Tuned, because if James is putting it on, you KNOW it will be 'THE EVENT', and you may want to begin making traveling arrangements..... SERIOUSLY.

GAY Costa Rica- Pucho's Night Club in San Jose Revisited

Many were saddened to hear of the Death of the original Pucho's Night Club in San Jose.
Pucho’s Night Club, once the raunchiest and seediest of the major gay Night Clubs in San José, Costa Rica, is no LONGER. The Pucho’s I knew and LOVED- is NOW dead. This is NOT a good thing- death tends to be so FINAL.

Okay, that’s a lie, Pucho’s is still there, Very much ALIVE… and it’s still GAY… and still one of the Big 4 gay clubs that seem to hold the gay nightlife in San José together. If you don’t know, it’s Club Oh! Bochinche’s, La Avispa and Pucho’s. There are others, but these are the ones usually mentioned on the net, as it tends to be difficult to play up many of the newer gay clubs, since they come and go about as quickly as a 16-year olds hard on.

I loved Pucho’s and they appeared to have LOVED me as well, or they faked it really good. But we’re through. I wouldn’t fuck them with ‘your’ dick. My original REVIEW of Pucho's: GAY Costa Rica: Pucho's Night Club in San Jose

A little over dramatic I know, but I’ve lost a great piece of ass, a friend with benefits, my party-animal partner in crime, a friend that NEVER passed judgments- AND nothing was off limits. So yeah, I’m a little depressed.

EVERYTHING that made Pucho’s Pucho’s, is now gone ( I kind of,,, I said kind of, even miss the raunchy trough style urinals, really a 'darkroom' disguised as a bathroom…. but I digress). Although they still have a darkroom in the back if you feel the need, but for me, on that night, the room wasn’t dark ENOUGH (hey, I was just in there to check it out) to mask the 50-something horndog from Italy who thought I was actually turned on by the sight of him rubbing his dick and moaning in Spanglish about what he’d like to do to me… YUMMY! BTW- if 50-something was 20-something and cute, I might have a different perspective…hehe. That said, there is a darkroom for those of you who want to play hide-n-seek with you-know-what.

Maybe, but I don't remember anyone in Pucho's darkroom looking like these guys.

Pucho’s may as well change their name to ‘Anywhere Gay Club’, because that’s what they’ve become. Pucho’s is NICE now- legitimate, spacious, re-decorated and overhauled- the facelift an obvious success depending on how you look at it. To me, Pucho’s NOW looks like all the rest of the gay bars, I guess MOST people feel comfortable in similar surroundings, gay or otherwise.

Pucho’s character lines- erased. Pucho’s personality- frankly, there is NO personality, which is TOO bad because ‘personality’ is SO fuckable. Pucho’s atmosphere- Well, it is a GAY club after all, so yeah, there’s a little atmosphere as a new lighting system works wonders. Whatever. Pucho’s looks- if you’ve never seen the old Pucho’s, I guess the new version is a LOOKER. Pucho’s sexiness- I preferred the sluttier version of Pucho’s, the new one looks nicer but I already have ‘that’ one at home.

Dear Pucho's, it was your BADNESS that made you HOT.

Pucho’s is Cool- you’ll have a GOOD time. We were impressed with the drag show and thoroughly enjoyed it and the guys we saw dancing and working there were CUTER than before. Someone even told me they still have the Nicaraguan boys playing with their dicks up on stage, but the night we were there it wasn't happening…. probably just wasn’t ‘Nica boys playing with their DICKs Night’.

Check out Pucho’s… but for me, I got a new favorite GAY CLUB in San José, it won’t surprise many of you who know the scene- but I never expected to have SUCH a great time. Stay tuned to see which one it was.

I'm BACK from Do'in GAY San Jose

Just BACK from Do'in GAY San Jose... and DO we have stories.

You know what they say about 'good intentions- my plan was to blog while touring around San Jose and keep you guys updated to my and D'Angelo's comings and doings, but their was just NO 'gay' WAY in HELL. Gay party after gay adventure after gay boys after gay clubs, after gay sex... gay, gay, gay, all around San Jose Costa Rica, I found it was literally impossible to find time to blog..... ok, that may be a lie, but after a night of clubb'in and jacuzzi's and waking up next to Hector,,, it really was quite difficult to find the fortitude to BUST out the computer. Have you seen Hector... now that's plenty to BUST about?

We just got back about an hour ago and I feel so guilty not keeping up for the last week, BUT I can assure YOU, I got tons of video, tons of info, tons of great stories,,,I just need to organize a bit. But I wanted to let you know,,,I'M BACK, and you will have my undivided attention.

Just a few UPcoming GAY tidbits:

We went to a San Jose gay protest, re-visited gay clubs like Bochinche's, La Avispa, Pucho's, Club Oh, and a few others...... and you won't want to miss 'my take' on the changes, both good and bad (you might be surprised). I'll be sharing my reviews on GAY hotels in the San Jose area such as Colours Oasis and Kekoldi, gay friendly restaurants like Cafe Mundo and much, much more,,,,, (gay and straight)...............so take my word,,don't forget to check back....I got weeks of GAY STUFF.

I would like to tell you about a PROTEST that will be happening in San Jose this Friday (April 3rd) at 6:00pm in front of the National Theatre and entrance to the Grand Hotel Costa Rica. Apparently, 2 lesbians got a 'handful of discrimination' on Valentines Day (for kissing... oh the horror!), and we're happy to report- they aren't taking it lying down- so a protest has been ORGANIZED. So to gays and friends of gays all over Costa Rica, this is the time to SHOW your SUPPORT- It's paramount we demonstrate that this sort of behavior will not BE tolerated... and NUMBERS may speak louder than words in this situation. Be the gay 'change' you want to see in the WORLD and Show UP at the National Theatre- every 'body' COUNTS. GAY change starts with GAY PRIDE and sometimes CHANGE needs a little fuck'in SHOVE in the RIGHT direction. Hope to see you there. And of course, we'll definitely be filming this as well, so if you wanna be on tape and offer your 2-cents, then by all means.

In Colombia, like anywhere else, GAY change starts with PRIDE.
I mentioned the other day that GAY rights are back in the courts in Costa Rica. I also mentioned I thought it would probably be a long time before anything was actually decided or even reviewed- Original Article: GAY Costa Rica- Same Sex Marriage Revisited

Maybe I spoke too soon, and on this subject I would love to be WRONG. If Uruguay and Colombia are any indication, maybe there’s a chance at CHANGE- and sooner than we think. Here’s what happened in Colombia recently:

'With the ruling, the Court took a historic leap with regard to the rights of gays and lesbians, granting same-sex partners ALL of the guarantees and benefits offered to unmarried heterosexual couples, except adoption, and placing Colombia at the forefront in Latin America in terms of legal recognition of the rights of gays and lesbians.'

So basically, in Colombia, gays and lesbians have all the rights any married couple would ENJOY, with the exception of adoption and getting married. Not bad.

Not only Uruguay and Colombia, even Argentina, Mexico and Brazil are making strides:

'Argentina, Mexico and Brazil recognize rights for gays and lesbians, but with differences between states, or limited to specific sectors, such as public employees,” Marcela Sánchez, a lesbian activist who heads Colombia Diversa, told IPS.'

Rights may be limited in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil, but at least they have SOME, it’s a START.

I think it’s VERY important to note, in the above cases, same sex marriage laws were enacted despite opposition from religious interests. And Catholicism is BIG TIME down here. So it can be done….. think- California.

It's not like God's Army wasn't putting up a fight in Colombia.

And this is my point:

What is the problem in the United States? The United States has always prided itself on its progressiveness in regards to human rights issues. It amazes me ‘gay’ is still an issue in the States. In Costa Rica it's somewhat understandable, but let's forget about Costa Rica for a second.

The irony- people in the United States are VERY ethnocentric. We think we’re the SHIT. Smarter, Bigger, Faster, more progressive, more RIGHT, more FAIR, more everything,,, than any other NATION on earth. We do. We were/are conditioned that way. Obviously, stupid, but for the sake of argument, let’s say it’s true- well, if it is, then we should know- GAY exists. We put a face on GAY at least 10 years ago. We have access to information and more than enough to make an informed decision. We have gay movies, gay documentary’s, gay television shows, gay on the internet, books, magazines, and we even have the that live next door… we know GAY and its EVERYWHERE. There’s just NO excuse for not having an understanding of the gay plight, Hell, we brought you Stonewall, Matthew Shepard, Ryan White, Harvey Milk and a thousand other examples to help with your GAY education.

So, how do these little backward countries leap over the United States on this most basic of human rights issue?

It’s embarrassing.

Costa Rica is in bed with the United States, no doubt about that, hopefully they won’t be on the GAY issues, hopefully they’ll follow the lead of many of their South American, Latin brothers instead.... and move for CHANGE.

This is not the time for Costa Rica to be a NELLY bottom in bed with the United States. The good ‘ol USA has played 'top' long enough, so come on Costa Rica, flip’em over and show’em who’s really 'behind' the times in regards to the gay issues.

When with the USA, be proactive and wear a condom, we tend to spread nasty things to our more UNAWARE bed partners.

Gay in Costa Rica or Gay in Las Vegas, gay is gay wherever you happen to live, and I’m here to tell you, GAY can be a difficult life- especially as we discover gray hairs growing on our nut sac.

But first.

I don’t think there is any debate on the importance of ‘looks’. It’s been studied, documented, and researched, and ALL the data appears to reach the same conclusion- LOOKS COUNT. The ‘hotter’ person usually gets the job, the cuter kid gets adopted quicker or is called on by the teacher more and that bitch Barbi, well, obviously she’s Ken’s ultimate FagHag. Unfortunately this says a lot about us as a people- pretty sad state of affairs if you ask me. But it IS what it IS and no matter how much we discuss inner-beauty, the truth is, many people never see ‘inner beauty’ if that beauty is enclosed in 300 lbs of acne-infested FAT, with HIPS that scrape against each side of the door frame. But not just fat, anyone that is regarded as peculiar or outside the norm of average good looks does NOT begin on an even playing field. In this day and age, they had better have some other alluring attributes. In other words, their PERSONALITY better be FUCKABLE. For me, I can SO fuck personality- it’s HOT… just sayin.

We say we know this, but looks draw us in…. like a peacock’s feathers. STRIKE the peacock, I once got a hard-on looking at Michelangelo’s, David. It’s a statue for God sake. How embarrassing is that? My dick definitely knows what it likes- I swear someone should do a study on which HEAD is REALLY running the show.

Obviously, HOT is in the eye of the beholder. So BEHOLD, from my eyes...

Why do ASIAN BOYS do it for me... I don't know, consult my DICK

In the ‘straight’ world, guys have it a ‘little’ easier, they’re not off the hook by any means, but it is easier. Woman are usually in relationships for the long haul and are apt to be more serious in trying to make it work, so if their man gets a little ‘beer belly’- it’s almost cute. And women have their own insecurities as far as the aging process goes, so often, it’s almost as if it’s an unwritten compromise- “I’ll put up with your beer belly issues, if you put up with my saggy tits issue.” Ladies, don't say it, I know... obviously there are exceptions to my over generalizing views.

Gays are much more superficial. Looks are almost EVERYTHING (unless you’re a BEAR …hehe). We have our ‘types’, guys that make us do ‘stupid’ things even when we know better. We love to get ‘abused’ by ‘our’ type, shit we would NEVER take from anyone else, family included, but we’ll totally overlook our ‘types’ shortcomings. Looks can render the most intelligent fag into a red-haired, retarded, dumber half-brother. Don’t get me wrong, GAYS have their compromises too, which are similar sounding- “We’re both getting old, and physically, you just don’t DO it for me anymore… well, anyway, if you need me, I’ll be on the computer…. love ya.”

My point is, no matter how superficial I KNOW looks are, I play the game as much as anyone. OH, for clarification, I’m talkin fuckin around here, not a relationship- I already have one of those. The problem is, my type is about 30-years my junior (legal of course) and I DON’T play the Sugar Daddy shit, so I ONLY work with my personality and my looks, wrinkled as they may be. Hell, I have D’Angelo by almost 20 years. My other hang-up is; if I for one minute thought someone wasn’t ‘into’ me, I would go soft in about 2 seconds, no matter how HOT I thought they were. I guess you could call me insecure with attitude.

So, the pics here, are me yesterday, after 10 days of the Lemon Cleanse Diet. The Lemon Cleanse: A regular glass of water w/ 1/2 lemon, 2 tbsp's of molasses and as much cayenne pepper as you can stand- 8-10 drinks a day, for 10 days. Nothing else. Only the drinks...... really, nothing, and I don't CHEAT. I’m hanging in there at 49-years old.

I’m still knee deep in the game of GAY, not ready to pack it up quite yet… and I’ll continue to collect my $200 for passing ‘GO’ as long as I’m able, but I’m not stupid, the game of GAY is a young man’s game… and I realize it’s sometimes difficult for others to fuck ‘young at heart’, but as for now, my body is keeping up with my heart.

Actually, I forgot my fuckin POINT. You'll have to excuse me, these lemon cleanse drinks go in my mouth and right out my ass, so my brain hasn't been fed in 10 days- I think I just wanted to show you my NEW pics and didn't know how to go about it without sounding conceded. So I came up with the above- although their might be a kernel of truth in the shit somewhere. Oh well... sorry.

GAY Costa Rica- Same Sex Marriage Revisited

Could gay marriage become legal in Costa Rica? Is it really a possibility?

As reported on the Costa Rica News Wire TODAY:

"The Sala IV constitutional court has agreed to study an appeal that would legalize same-sex marriage in Costa Rica."

Obviously there's a little more to the story, but not much. Just a little snippet that it's back in the courts, but HEY, gotta 'restart' the PROCESS somewhere.

I hate to be the pessimist, but this doesn't really DO it for me. Yeah, it's great it's back on the table, obviously better than collecting dust in a 'closet' somewhere.

How about this, is Costa Rica ready?

Costa Rican's are Friendly, and they are tolerant, but I've written ad nauseum about their attitudes concerning gays, (see: Gay Traveler vs. Living Gay in Costa Rica), which for the uninitiated is 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and more importantly, Don't ACT' Gay policy. Other than that, they don't mind us hanging abOUT. I think they feel 'COOL' telling people we're their friends. So avant-garde.

It's NOT that Tico's would like to see this happen to the gay population in Costa Rica:

That said, they're just not close to Gay marriage becoming a reality here anytime soon. Maybe it was put on the table merely to pacify the more vocal fag organizations in the San Jose area, so now the government can shut them up for awhile.... who knows. But anyone that understands the court 'process' here, knows this could still be a LONG way off to actually being reviewed. And since the majority doesn't want it, I'm thinking there's no RUSH.

Although Costa Rica isn't Iran, and they don't want to see us hanged (I don't think anyway), unfortunately most still believe this:

Gay rights in Costa Rica, like anywhere else, will be a process, a LONG one at that, so it's all GOOD, as long as we keep taking baby steps we'll get GAY eventually- but just because it's in the courts doesn't mean we can become complacent, we still need to get OUT there and educated the public. We need a FACE on GAY. Mark my words, it may not happen in my lifetime, but eventually 'GAY' will be a moot issue- 20 years maybe? Sometimes I worry about that DAY because then gays won't have anything to bitch about, so then what do we find to BITCH about?

Hotel Joluva San Jose.... in a couple years?

AS OF APRIL 2009- THE JOLUVA GUESTHOUSE IN SAN JOSE HAS CLOSED ITS DOOR FOR GOOD! go figure.

*PLEASE- in GOOGLE searches don't confuse Hotel Joluva in San Jose, Costa Rica with that of the Joluva Guesthouse in Granada, Nicaragua. One SUCKS, the other does in a GOOD WAY! Read on:

Short and NOT so Sweet: Hotel Joluva in San JOSE, Costa Rica now officially SUCKS- and NOT in a good way. The once fairly popular hotel for gays is pretty much a thing of the past. Hotel Joluva was NEVER a 4-star type of gay hotel to say the least, more geared for gays traveling on a budget- decent, often dirty rooms, BUT with friendly GAY staff and located close to just about everything of interest in San José, so the dingyness of the place was often overlooked. Now, the new owner, we’ll call him, ‘I’ve Never Managed a Gay Hotel Before and have the social skills of an Ice Cube,’ appears to be almost purposely flushing Hotel Joluva down the drain. There’s no other explanation, unless it’s going Ted Haggard ‘straight’ or something, which I have heard. I’ll sum up the entire ‘NEW’ Joluva experience in one sentence- THEY JUST don’t Care’.

Don’t believe me…. then book your room.... actually, you don’t need reservations, word of mouth about Hotel Joluva seems to be spreading amongst the gay traveler like an ‘ol porn star’s ASSHOLE, so room is always available.

These guys were retarded enough to stay at Hotel Joluva- they read the hotel's NEW RULES, which pretty much explains their FACES.
